The MBTI personality test - Get to know yourself better to be yourself

Have you ever taken the time to take a personality test? To get to know yourself?

Getting to know yourself is a life's work... and from time to time, an introspection allows you to put things straight: Who am I? What are my character traits? What is my true temperament? What are my values?

Developing a better knowledge of oneself makes it easier to show one's personality and needs to others, especially at work. This contributes to personal balance and better fulfillment.

The 13 mbti personalities test is often used for personal development by coaching organizations and to prepare professional reconversions. So we wanted to tell you about it :)

What is the MBTI ?

For the record, MBTI stands for Myers & Briggs Type Indicator. This personality inventory was invented by Katharine Cook Briggs and her daughter in the United States in the early 20th century. Noticing that her daughter and her future husband, Clarence Myers, had very different personalities and ways of functioning, Katharine undertook research to understand the different temperaments.

And then when the psychologist Carl G. Jung published "Psychological types". In 1921, Katharine found similarities with her own typologies, while being aware that Jung's theories were more complete. With her daughter, they wanted to make this work on psychological functions accessible to as many people as possible and created a questionnaire.

The MBTI instrument, first published in 1962, has since been regularly updated. Among the existing psychometric tests, it is one of the most widely used, notably by psychologists to determine the personality of their patients and to detect possible personality disorders, and by recruiters in the context of professional personality tests and skills assessments.

How does the MBTI personality test work ?

  • A personality test of 60 questions
  • Which allows you to determine 16 psychological personalities
  • Your result is a combination of 4 letters, which represents one of the 16 profiles

The 4 letters correspond to 4 cognitive functions or behavioral preferences:

[E] or [I]
Are you an extrovert or an introvert ?
How do you recharge your batteries?
➙ Surrounded by other people [E] or alone with yourself [I]

[S] or [N]
Sensation or Intuition
How do you process information ?
By your physical [S] or intuitive [N] senses

[T] or [F]
Thinking = Thought or Feeling = Feeling
How do you make your decisions ?
➙ Conscientious, you think before you act [T] or by feeling [F]

[J] ou [P]
Judgment or Perception
How do you take action ?
➙ In a planned [J] or improvised way, taking opportunities that come your way [P].

Why take a personality test?

Understand and express your personality

The MBTI is a very good tool for self-knowledge and self-assertion. It allows you to better understand how you function, what your strengths, qualities and weaknesses are.

In the context of a new professional project, undertaking an introspection through a tool like the MBTI also allows you to better define your project.

Understanding others to be happy at work

We all have "preferences" that influence our way of processing information, expressing our emotions, communicating, our leadership style...

In a team composed of different personalities, these typological preferences can lead to dysfunctions that degrade the work atmosphere.

Explore the personalities that are different from yours. Maybe you will recognize some of your colleagues' personalities and understand how:

  • Better adapt to their emotions
  • Understand their character and personality

Improving one's relationship with others is a factor of fulfillment and well-being at work.
