From Beauty Queen & Radio Presenter to working for the environment full-time with Baitong Jareerat Petsom
Have you ever wondered? Before I started working full-time in the environmental field, people would ask, “What kind of work have you done?” I’ve been a radio presenter, host, MC, creative, traveler, and even a beauty queen. I worked as a traveler and did creative and scriptwriting. At that time, I was also producing a travel program.
Even when I was recommending travel spots, I would always include the things I liked and was passionate about, especially the environment. I’d weave in messages about nature conservation and awareness. So I can say that from the beginning of my journey until now, I’ve always been involved in work related to the environment, particularly in communication because I love to talk.
It hasn’t been an easy path. If I compare this journey to a road, it’s been full of off-road routes, bumpy roads, wild paths, and sometimes flat ones, but still not easy. Getting to where I am today took going through many experiences. Each story became my inspiration, especially for myself.
Understanding my own needs, developing empathy for myself, for others, and for nature are the things that have shaped me. What draws me to this profession is how it lets me see the world as it should be. It opens my eyes to the vastness and diversity of our planet. Beyond environmental change and development, there’s the development of the self. To live well on this planet, maybe what we need is work that also brings joy.
There’s no easy way. But if that path brings beauty, fun, and happiness, why not take it? This is the era of opportunity. Give it a shot. If it doesn’t work out, how will you know it was right for you? So my best advice is to enjoy your work. Stick with it. If you’re having fun, you can keep doing it forever, and more than that, you’ll be happy.
