From History graduate to renewable energy advocate in Indonesia
Growing up in Semarang, Indonesia, Anneke Julianita witnessed the environmental impacts of urbanization, from persistent flooding to pollution. These experiences inspired her to focus on sustainability initiatives, starting with green projects through AIESEC. Despite her background in History, Anneke’s passion for the environment led her to explore renewable energy, eventually attending the Youth for Energy event by the Swedish Embassy. This pivotal moment opened her eyes to the transformative potential of renewables, setting her on a path to join Pondera, where she now works on energy transition projects.
One of Anneke’s proudest achievements is leading the offshore wind energy initiative under the European Union Climate Dialogues in Indonesia. She coordinated efforts between Indonesian and Dutch teams to assess offshore wind energy’s feasibility, influencing national policies on sustainable energy. “What makes this project stand out is its long-term potential to drive Indonesia’s energy transition by tapping into untapped renewable energy sources,” she shares, emphasizing the initiative’s impact on the country’s energy landscape.
To aspiring green professionals, Anneke offers this advice: “Never let your academic background limit what you aspire to be in life.” Her multidisciplinary perspective, shaped by her History studies, has been a valuable asset in addressing complex environmental challenges. “Stay open to learning, leverage your unique skills, and don’t be afraid to step into the field. You can make meaningful contributions to the fight against climate change.”
