Roles and missions of the homemaker
Family auxiliaries are early childhood professionals specially trained to provide support to families whose parents are absent or unable to provide adequate support. Their main mission is to help support children and their families by providing care and teaching services. The roles and responsibilities of homemakers may include:
Helping to plan and implement an educational and learning programme for children.
Ensuring the well-being of children by providing care and guidance.
Sharing and teaching children social and interpersonal skills.
Help children manage their emotions and relationships.
Discussing children's achievements and behaviour with parents and/or family members.
Teach children a variety of basic skills, including eating, sleeping habits, rules and personal hygiene.
Offer support to children and their families in difficult situations.
Providing information and advice to parents on how to manage their children.
Help children prepare for an independent future and make informed decisions.
Working closely with health and other professionals involved in the lives of children and their families.
Family carers are able to provide essential support and invaluable assistance to families whose parents are unable to provide the necessary level of care. They also provide an opportunity for children to develop their skills and abilities to become "self-reliant".
Salary and career development of a home carer
A home care assistant is a professional who provides home care services to elderly, disabled or sick people, or to families in need. The average gross annual salary for a home care assistant varies according to experience and qualifications. Salaries are generally between €17,000 and €25,000 a year.
Less than 2 years: between €17,000 and €20,000 a year.
2 to 5 years: between €20,000 and €22,500 a year.
5 to 10 years: between €22,500 and €24,000 per year.
10 to 15 years: between €24,000 and €25,500 per year.
Over 15 years: Between €25,500 and €27,000 per year.
In addition to salary, care assistants may also receive additional benefits such as travel allowance and reimbursement of training costs.
