➔ Description of the mission

The Green Finance Lead will play a pivotal role in energy finance analysis, project evaluation, and policy research within Pakistan's clean energy sector. This position combines rigorous financial analysis with climate impact assessment, requiring the fellow to develop pricing models, conduct feasibility studies, and engage with key stakeholders including government bodies, private sector players, and international partners. The Green Finance Lead will work on innovative financing mechanisms such as competitive market structures, Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) models, and tariff optimization while building expertise in green project financing. This role offers direct involvement in shaping national energy policies and contributing to Pakistan's sustainable development goals through data-driven research and strategic financial analysis.

The position provides exposure to diverse energy technologies (solar, wind, hydro, biomass) and financing instruments (debt, equity, green bonds, blended mechanisms) while building relationships with industry stakeholders, investors, and financial institutions. This role will contribute to portfolio monitoring, risk assessment, and the development of financing products that support small and medium enterprises in adopting renewable energy solutions.

This role is part of the Climate Finance Fellowship, a 12-month program designed to bridge the talent gap in the climate finance sector. The Fellowship supports mid-career finance professionals who are looking to transition into purpose-driven, climate-focused work—particularly within nonprofit and civil society organizations across the Global South. Fellows are placed within high-impact host organizations, where they take on a core finance or strategy role. In addition to this placement, Fellows join a cohort-based learning journey that includes:

  • Tailored climate and leadership development modules
  • One-on-one coaching and mentorship
  • Peer learning and community exchange
  • Access to professional networks in climate and development

The Fellowship is led by Surge Climate Talent (SCT), with program design and implementation managed by Global Good x Amani, an impact consulting and leadership development firm. Together, SCT and GG x Amani are working to ensure that host organizations are supported, Fellows are set up for success, and the program contributes meaningfully to strengthening the climate finance ecosystem.

This opportunity is especially suited for professionals from the private or public sectors with strong finance experience who may not yet have worked in climate or nonprofit contexts. It is also open to those currently in the nonprofit sector seeking to specialize in climate finance.

Key responsibilities for the Green Finance Lead will include:

Focus Area 1: Financial Analysis and Modelling

  • Develop comprehensive pricing models to determine optimal pricing structures under competitive market conditions for clean energy projects
  • Create and maintain sophisticated financial models for energy transition projects, including techno-economic assessments and feasibility studies
  • Conduct financial analysis for diverse energy projects across solar, wind, hydro, and biomass technologies

  • Monitor trends, policies, and market dynamics in Pakistan's and global energy sectors to identify investment opportunities and risks

  • Research financing instruments and business models for renewable energy deployment while tracking government incentives for RE/EE technology adoption
