The Climate Finance Network Thailand (CFNT) is a think tank and a network of like-minded individuals headquartered in Bangkok, devoted to propelling sustainable financial practices and assisting in Thailand’s transition toward a low-carbon economy. Recognizing the pivotal role of the financial sector in combating climate change, CFNT's primary objective is to help catalyse impactful climate finance through solution-based research, stakeholder engagement, and network building.

RESEARCHER, THAILAND

The Researcher will play a central role in advancing solution-oriented research on climate finance in Thailand. Working within CFNT’s participatory environment, the Researcher will collaborate with a range of stakeholders, including policymakers, investors, service providers, civil society, and communities at risk. Reporting to the Head of Research, the position involves conducting desktop studies, developing research questions, and producing evidence-based analysis to design innovative financing options for climate mitigation and adaptation. The role requires strong analytical skills, financial knowledge, and the ability to deliver actionable recommendations in a collaborative but small organizational setting.

By the end of the contract, the Researcher is expected to deliver high-quality outputs that strengthen CFNT’s climate finance agenda. These include research on carbon credits, analysis of coal phase-out financing, prototyping socially inclusive debt instruments, and exploring agricultural finance solutions. Collectively, these contributions will provide practical insights to inform policy, guide stakeholders, and catalyse new opportunities for funding climate transition, mitigation, adaptation, and nature-positive development across Thailand. This is a hybrid position, with at least two days in-office.

This role is part of the Climate Finance Fellowship, a 12-month program designed to bridge the talent gap in the climate finance sector. The Fellowship supports mid-career finance professionals who are looking to transition into purpose-driven, climate-focused work—particularly within nonprofit and civil society organizations across the Global South. Fellows are placed within high-impact host organizations, where they take on a core finance or strategy role. In addition to this placement, Fellows join a cohort-based learning journey that includes:

  • Tailored climate and leadership development modules
  • One-on-one coaching and mentorship
  • Peer learning and community exchange
  • Access to professional networks in climate and development

The Fellowship is led by Surge Climate Talent (SCT), with program design and implementation managed by Global Good x Amani, an impact consulting and leadership development firm. Together, SCT and GG x Amani are working to ensure that host organizations are supported, Fellows are set up for success, and the program contributes meaningfully to strengthening the climate finance ecosystem.

This opportunity is especially suited for professionals from the private or public sectors with strong finance experience who may not yet have worked in climate or nonprofit contexts. It is also open to those currently in the nonprofit sector seeking to specialize in climate finance.

Key responsibilities for the Researcher will include:

  • Conduct research on topics related to sustainable finance, including climate finance, just energy transition, financial analyses, on innovative and inclusive climate solutions.
  • Act as finance expert, support to connect with financial service providers, institutional public and private investors, and stakeholders from the financial sector to design, develop and deploy corresponding innovative financial solutions.
  • Co-design and co-develop innovative bankable solutions, including the finance analyses, contextualized to the mitigation and adaptation needs and priorities in Thailand.
  • Contribute articles and sharing knowledge on CFNT’s Facebook page and website.
  • Work as part of a team at workshops, seminars, and events.

➔ Profile

The Researcher must meet the following criteria:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Banking, Economics, or a related field (a Master's degree in the aforementioned fields is a plus).
  • At least 3 years of work experience, including internships or work experience during studies.
  • Prior internship or work experience in a financial institution, bank, audit firm, or finance team, especially in climate finance area is an advantage.
  • Must be residing in Thailand and fluent in the Thai language.
  • Good grasp of financial modelling basics (a corporate finance background is a plus).
  • Keen interest in exploring and learning about new developments related to climate change, energy transition, and/or social finance.
  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills when working with data.
  • Flexible, self-reliant, and strong attentive to details.
  • Effective communicator with excellent English and Thai speaking and writing skills.
  • Clear communication skills and willingness to ask questions when in doubt.
  • Takes ownership of assigned responsibilities and escalates issues as needed.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and proactive mindset in learning and working in a team environment.
  • Enjoys working in a small organizational setting.
