➔ Description of the mission

Role Overview:

The Activism and Human Rights Education (HRE) Intern will support Amnesty International Thailand’s work to strengthen human rights education and grassroots activism. This includes assisting in the planning and delivery of workshops, training, and outreach with activists, youth clubs, and volunteers. The intern will contribute to developing educational materials, engaging in digital and offline campaigns, and coordinating with schools, universities, and partner organisations. In line with Amnesty’s Activism Strategy, the intern will also help strengthen the activist journey, including intake, mentoring, and recognition systems for youth clubs and volunteers. By the end of the internship, the intern will design and implement a small independent project with guidance from the team.

Key Accountabilities/ Responsibilities:

  • Support Activism & Education Programs: Assist in organizing and facilitating workshops, classes, training sessions, and capacity-building activities on a range of human rights topics.
  • Community & Club Engagement: Help build and maintain relationships with human rights clubs, youth groups, activists, and volunteers.
  • Support Activist Journey: Assist with intake, mentoring, and recognition processes for new activists, clubs, and volunteers.
  • Content Creation: Develop or adapt educational and campaign materials (e.g. presentations, articles, social media content, digital learning tools).
  • Research & Information Digest: Compile and summarise information on key human rights issues in accessible formats for youth and the public.
  • Coordination & Outreach: Support collaboration with schools, universities, and civil society partners.
  • Digital & Offline Engagement: Contribute to both online mobilisation strategies and offline activism events.
  • Community Mobilisation: Support grassroots initiatives and seed-funded local projects, linking them with Amnesty’s campaigns.
  • Documentation & Learning: Assist in monitoring and documenting activism activities, supporting internal learning and reflection.
  • Independent Project: Design and deliver a personal project on human rights education or activism with team mentoring.

Person Specification:

  • Strong interest in human rights education and activism (e.g. freedom of expression and assembly; gender, racial, and intersectional justice; housing rights; climate justice; rights of refugees and migrants; protection of youth and frontline defenders).
  • Currently studying or recently graduated from a relevant programme.
  • Good organisational, research, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Fluency in Thai; English proficiency desirable.
