About this role

We are seeking a highly motivated technical specialist

The specialist is expected to contribute to our energy security and decarbonisation pathways workstream. The role will focus on at least one (or more) of the following specialization areas: solar PV integration, energy planning, energy efficiency, OR emissions reduction. The core of this role centers on technical OR financial quantitative modelling (or a combination of both), data analysis, and analytical assessments. The role will also provide secondary support for project management, proposal development, and ODA-funded project execution across our energy portfolio in the Lower Mekong Basin (LMB), Southeast Asia, and Australia

We are looking for someone that:

  • Has early-career experience in solar PV integration, energy planning, energy efficiency, or emissions reduction, with proven technical or financial modelling skills in the LMB region (Vietnam, Cambodia, Lao PDR, or Thailand).
  • Has strong technical and quantitative analytical capabilities, with the ability to build, run, or at least interpret energy/financial/emissions models.
  • Has the ability and willingness to provide supporting input for project delivery, remote research management, and donor-funded proposal preparation alongside senior technical experts.
  • Has strong communication skills in English to convey technical modelling results clearly
  • Has experience with client relationship management, bonus if you have experience managing ODA funded projects.
  • Is flexible, adaptative, driven and has aspirations to work with a high performing team.
  • Shares our themes of culture, impact and value; and will reflect this in decision making and project delivery.
  • HCMC is preferred location.
  • While the primary focus of this role is technical or financial quantitative modelling, previous exposure to client management, proposal drafting, or ODA project support will be considered an advantage

What you will be doing in this role

  • Support the Senior Power Systems Specialist in developing technical input into analytical studies, policy briefings, and industry thought pieces.
  • Lead research or contribute to technical OR financial quantitative modelling for energy planning, solar PV integration (gridconnected and distributed systems), energy efficiency, OR emissions reduction / GHG accounting pathways.
  • Develop or manage specialized spreadsheets/models depending on your domain (e.g., LCOE, techno-economic/financial yield models, energy planning simulation tools, energy audit calculations, or GHG emissions inventory & carbon reduction pathways)
  • Support proposal development and business development efforts by drafting technical methodology sections, inputting data into project budgets, and collecting baseline information for donorfunded (ODA) and commercial projects.
  • Support the coordination of specific research work packages with local sub-contractors across LMB countries.
  • Translate complex quantitative outputs into clear analytical reports and presentations for clients and technical partners
  • Represent AMPERES with clients and sub-contractors.
  • Collaborate with academic, government, and private sector partners to ensure practical, innovative, and scalable solutions.

Skills and Experience

  • Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Environmental Engineering (with focus on GHG/emissions), Energy Economics, Quantitative Economics, or a closely related quantitative field.
  • Minimum 4 years of professional experience focusing on at least one of the following areas: solar PV integration, energy planning, energy efficiency, OR emissions reduction.
  • Demonstrated hands-on expertise in technical OR financial quantitative modelling (e.g., techno-economic analysis, power system/energy balance simulation, financial ROI/NPV models, energy efficiency savings calculation, OR GHG inventory & foot-printing)
  • Essential Technical Skillset: Proficiency in analytical and quantitative tools relevant to your domain, such as Python, MATLAB, OR advanced Excel (technical or financial modelling), and/or specialized energy/emissions software. Familiarity with GIS tools is an advantage.
  • Knowledge and experience in at least one Lower Mekong country (Vietnam, Thailand, Lao PDR, or Cambodia), including familiarity with relevant national energy planning policies, solar PV regulations, energy efficiency standards, or emissions reduction frameworks.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in multi-cultural environments and as a collaborative team player.
