Description of the mission

Key Responsibilities

The Captive Wildlife Advocacy & Outreach Officer will support advocacy, on-site communications, stakeholder engagement, and event coordination for the elephant programme in Dak Lak Province. The role will help strengthen outreach and public engagement activities, support communications related to elephant conservation and welfare, and coordinate events and campaigns that promote the transition to ethical elephant tourism.

The position will work closely with the CW team, local partners, and the communications team to ensure consistent messaging and effective engagement with local communities, authorities, and visitors.

1. Advocacy and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Support advocacy activities that promote improved welfare and conservation of captive elephants in Dak Lak Province.
  • Assist in maintaining communication and coordination with key stakeholders, including local authorities, forest management boards, elephant owners, and community partners.
  • Support the preparation of advocacy materials, presentations, and briefing documents related to the elephant programme.
  • Participate in meetings, consultations, and field visits related to elephant welfare and tourism transition initiatives.

2. On-site Communications and Outreach

  • Coordinate and support on-site communications activities related to the elephant programme.
  • Assist in preparing communication materials such as visitor information, programme updates, educational content, and outreach materials.
  • Support communication activities linked to key programme initiatives, including the elephant survey and potential national awareness campaigns.
  • Work closely with the Communications team to ensure messaging aligns with organizational communication strategies.

3. Event Planning and Coordination

  • Organize and coordinate programme events such as workshops, training sessions, field visits, community outreach activities, and stakeholder meetings.
  • Support logistics planning and coordination for programme events and visits from partners, donors, and media.
  • Ensure effective documentation and communication of key events and programme milestones.

4. Programme Support

  • Provide coordination support for elephant programme activities in Dak Lak Province.
  • Assist with programme monitoring, documentation, and reporting where relevant.
  • Support the preparation of communication content for internal and external reporting.

  • Strong coordination and organisational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, priorities, and deadlines
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with government partners and local stakeholders
  • Event planning and coordination skills
  • Good problem-solving and initiative-taking ability
  • Basic data collection and report writing skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a cross-functional team

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of Vietnam’s wildlife conservation and tourism context
  • Understanding of stakeholder engagement with local authorities and communities
  • Knowledge of communication and outreach approaches for conservation programmes
  • Awareness of procurement and financial compliance procedures
  • Familiarity with project implementation and reporting requirements

Experience

  • At least 3–5 years of relevant professional experience, preferably in communications, advocacy, conservation programmes, or community engagement.
  • Experience organizing events, workshops, or outreach activities.
  • Experience working with local authorities, communities
  • Experience in animal welfare, conservation projects

Education / Qualification

  • University degree in in communications, public relations, environmental studies, tourism, or a related field.
