➔ Description of the mission

Youths for Autism (YFA) Internship Programme offers passionate and motivated young individuals the opportunity to gain hands-on experience supporting students and clients with autism. Interns will be meaningfully engaged in special education or inclusive workplace settings, while contributing to the learning, development, and well-being of students or clients in a supportive and inclusive environment.

As a YFA intern, you will be deployed to one of the following departments based on your interest, strengths, and organizational needs:

  • Teaching Track (Primary, Secondary, or Vocational Track)
  • Digital Academy
  • Early Intervention Programme (EIP)
  • Employability and Employment Centre (E2C)

Your Impact and Contribution:

  • Support teachers or job coaches in delivering daily learning and engagement activities for students or clients with autism.
  • Assist in managing routines and ensuring a structured, safe, and supportive environment, whether in the classroom or workplace.
  • Provide one-on-one or small group support to students or clients, based on their individual needs.
  • Help with the preparation of teaching, training, or vocational materials and resources.
  • Participate in student care activities, such as mealtimes, transitions, and outdoor learning.
  • Collaborate with teachers and other team members to support the holistic development of students.
  • Support school-wide or centre-wide events and initiatives (e.g., learning journeys, career fairs, or social activities).

Learning Outcomes:

  • Develop greater awareness and understanding of autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
  • Learn strategies to engage and support the learning and behaviour of individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
  • Gain insight into the roles within special education and inclusive workplace settings.
  • Build soft skills such as communication, teamwork, and empathy in a real-world environment.

Requirements:

  • Passion for working with children or youths with special needs.
  • Patient, responsible, and willing to learn.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to commit to full duration of the internship.
  • No prior experience required – training will be provided.
