Role and Responsibilities

BlueWild EcoVentures is the ecotourism division of Blue Alliance International, established to harness tourism as a sustainable means of financially supporting Marine Protected Areas for the long term.

The Ocean Advocacy Officer will have the primary responsibility of raising awareness and voluntary contributions through BlueTalks (A first-hand introduction to Marine Protected Areas and their significance to conservation, communities, and visitors in North Mindoro) and other fundraising events. The Ocean Advocacy Officer will report to the EcoVentures Manager.

Their responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Customer / Product

  • Conduct BlueTalks, Trivia Nights, Pop-Ups and other environmental awareness and fundraising initiatives at resorts, dive shops, and other public platforms.
  • Inspire travelers to financially contribute to Blue Alliance’s initiatives, both during fundraising events and afterwards through the available donation mechanisms.
  • Advertise and help improve incentives for traveler donations and partner initiative (e.g. Dive Mindoro merchandise, strategic communications and reporting, etc.).
  • Advertise BlueWild EcoVentures’ Citizen Science program for traveler participation and partner collaboration; help maximize it as a tool for partner engagement.
  • Engage with tourism partners and travelers to foster a commitment to Blue Alliance’s marine conservation and community development efforts. This involves cultivating and maintaining client relationships, with a focus on converting them into a scheduled BlueTalk or other fundraising events.
  • Additionally ideate and assist with the organization and execution of other BlueWild EcoVentures initiatives for awareness and engagement.

Internal Processes

  • Lead and manage all processes relating to the execution and evaluation of BlueWild EcoVentures’ awareness and fundraising events (e.g. building relationships with tourism partners’ event coordinators, booking event schedules, preparing materials and equipment, managing logistical oversight and events promotion, etc.).
  • Dedicate initiative to be learned in Blue Alliance International and Blue Alliance Philippines’ marine conservation and community development work, to the end of explaining these as components of fundraising pitches and awareness campaigns.
  • Lead and manage all processes relating to the execution and evaluation of BlueWild EcoVentures’ Citizen Science program (e.g. building relationships with tourism partners’ dive shop staff, preparing materials, training staff for promotion, etc.).

Organizational Capacity

  • Collaborate and align with the internal team to ensure effective implementation of environmental initiatives and operations.
  • Assist with various tasks as required to enhance the organization's operational efficiency and capacity.

Financial

  • Assist in tracking and reporting on the financial impact of BlueWild EcoVentures’ awareness and fundraising initiatives on the organization's revenue.
  • Implement and evaluate processes for collecting donations during awareness and fundraising initiatives; ensure the proper reporting of donations received.
Profile

Qualifications and Experience

  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency in sales and marketing.
  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency in public speaking.
  • Demonstrated ability to study a subject area for pitching and explanation.
  • Proven experience in public relations or related fields, with a successful track record in campaigns and initiatives.
  • Prior experience in ecotourism, marine conservation, and marine science would be preferred but not required; however, the initiative to study these is essential.
  • Prior experience in scuba diving would be preferred but not required; however, willingness to undergo scuba diving courses is essential.
  • Formal qualification at a tertiary institution is not mandatory but can be beneficial.

Abilities

  • Exceptional public speaking and presentation skills, capable of inspiring diverse audiences and has the creativity in tailoring presentations to different audiences.
  • Strong sales skills to book schedules for fundraising events and has the drive to reach targets
  • Ability to analyze contributions data and identify trends to inform future sales and marketing efforts.
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with a results-driven approach.
  • Strong organizational skills for managing event logistics efficiently.
  • Knowledge of ethical sales practices and compliance standards, particularly in the context of fundraising and soliciting donations.
  • Flexibility for travel and irregular working hours as required.
