Description of the mission

JOB OVERVIEW

This role supports regional public affairs initiatives, stakeholder engagement, and strategic advocacy for the plant science industry across Asia. The Associate Director will work collaboratively to drive the industry’s representation, support the development of global policies and positions, and manage relationships with key stakeholders through relevant regional and international fora.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Public Affairs & Strategic Advocacy

  • Support committees and project teams in establishing strategic direction and advocacy for the plantscience industry in the region.
  • Assist in developing regional positions that are harmonised with global industry positions and statements.
  • Help coordinate advocacy strategies and engagement plans to convey the industry’s position tokey government, NGO, and media stakeholders.
  • Support the effective implementation of action plans to address key industry issues raised by committees and project teams.

2. Policy Monitoring & Research

  • Monitor developments and identify upcoming issues of importance via personal contacts, press,other publications, and web sources.
  • Track regulatory changes and policy trends relevant to the industry across the region.
  • Conduct research on policy matters and regulatory environments affecting the organization.
  • Provide regular updates and analysis on important developments to the Secretariat and office bearers.

3. Government Relations & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Support engagement and correspondence with national governments (political and administrative)and international organizations.
  • Help build and maintain a network of stakeholders, including government, industry, media, academic, andNGO contacts.
  • Assist in representing the organization at formal meetings of international governmental and non-governmental organisations.
  • Support the development and implementation of stakeholder engagement strategies to effectivelymanage formal and informal networks.

4. Committee Support & Coordination

  • Serve as coordinator for the Public Affairs and Communications Committee.
  • Organize committee meetings and conference calls, including preparation of pre-reads, agendas, and follow-up actions.
  • Prepare meeting documents, consolidate comments, and write minutes.
  • Facilitate effective communication between committee members and ensure ample opportunity for input and feedback.
  • Coordinate activities and ensure the effective exchange of information and ideas within the network.

5. Communications & Content Development

  • Support the development of communication materials and key messages to promote a communication mind-set in all activities.
  • Assist in content creation for various platforms and audiences, helping to convert complex technical issues into accessible language.
  • Contribute to strategic messaging efforts and the formulation of advocacy strategies.
  • Help coordinate communications initiatives and liaise with communications executives of otherregional associations.
  • Provide general communications support to member organizations and internal teams (Regulatory Affairs, Stewardship, etc.).

6. Budget & Planning

  • Support the development of annual action plans and establish budget needs.
  • Assist in budget planning, reporting, and tracking of expenses.
  • Help evaluate value for money regarding project team work and initiatives.

Profile

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Fluent and articulate English language speaker with excellent writing skills.
  • Experience in public affairs, advocacy, government relations, or a similar role.
  • Knowledge of policy development and experience in dealing with national governments or international organizations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage complex stakeholder networks.
  • Understanding of agriculture, the plant science industry, and a desire to further the objectives of the membership is desirable.
  • Demonstrated capacity to identify and effectively manage relationships with diverse stakeholders
  • Experience with digital communications and content development.
