The Media Communications Assistant Manager will support the development and implementation of digital, audio, and printed extension materials, including social media, radio, and other digital and non-digital initiatives, to increase EWS-KT outreach in rural areas.

The position will work closely with the Global Market Integration & Agricultural Extension Manager and the Global Communications Manager to support EWS-KT’s long-term vision and digital strategies to scale up farmer communication initiatives. The role will help build a comprehensive digital ecosystem to complement services provided to farmers and stakeholders.

The Media Communications Assistant Manager will publicize farmer activities, events, and EWS-KT operations through social media and local media channels, while also adapting existing EWS-KT content into formats suitable for current media platforms. The position will work closely with the graphic designers, Technical Support Hub team, and the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning team to develop farmer-friendly agronomic fact sheets, technical notes, and extension materials that integrate gender and youth inclusion.

The position will also guide and build the capacity of country-based Extension Media Specialists and Coordinators to implement social media campaigns and digital media projects. The Media Communications Assistant Manager will also assist with the production, formatting, and dissemination of extension materials across appropriate digital and non-digital channels.

The target audience includes farmers, rural stakeholders, vegetable value chain actors, and EWS-KT extension staff.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Execute the farmer communication vision and strategy to reach, engage, and educate farmers and rural stakeholders.
  • Mentor, guide, and support Extension Media Specialists and Coordinators to help them achieve country-level indirect outreach targets.
  • Use existing channels and develop new digital and non-digital communication channels to reach target audiences through strategic organic and paid methods.
  • Plan, execute, and analyze digital channel activities to drive targeted traffic growth, improve farmer knowledge, and increase engagement. Regularly track and monitor KPIs, including but not limited to followers, reach, engagement, traffic, content performance, and audience growth.
  • Manage and oversee end-to-end digital projects, ensuring timely planning, execution, monitoring, reporting, and optimization.
  • Build, maintain, and optimize EWS-KT’s online and media presence for farmers and rural stakeholders. This includes working closely with external media partners such as digital agencies, TV, radio, newspapers, and influencers, in coordination with country Extension Media Specialists and Coordinators.
  • Co-create content strategies and coordinate with country teams to plan, develop, and systemize always-on content that educates farmers and supports outreach targets.
  • Train country Extension Media Specialists and Coordinators to strengthen their capabilities in areas such as media tools, analytics, integrated campaigns, paid media advertising, non-digital communication platforms, content planning, and campaign execution.
  • Prepare monthly reports and conduct data analysis on channel performance, farmer queries, audience behavior, and emerging trends. Provide actionable recommendations for continuous optimization and growth.
  • Manage digital assets, including but not limited to social media platforms, websites, learning platforms, applications, and other farmer-facing digital tools.

Profile

Background

  • BSc/MSc/MBA in Marketing, Digital Marketing, Communications, Media Studies / Media Production or advertising.
  • 3-4 years of years in digital and non-digital communication, including social media marketing, digital media management, radio, television, or other mass media channels.
  • Experience managing digital communication platforms, preferably as a digital media specialist, social media manager, communication officer, or similar role.
  • Project management experience, with the ability to plan, coordinate, execute, monitor, and report on communication and digital projects.
  • Experience using social media analytics tools and the ability to interpret performance data to improve reach, engagement, and content effectiveness.
  • Knowledge on graphic design, including working knowledge of Adobe tools or similar design platforms.
  • Understanding of content delivery best practices, including how to adapt content for different audiences, platforms, and formats.
  • Experience or knowledge of agriculture, horticulture, or smallholder farmer communication will be an advantage.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English, with strong presentation, communication, and stakeholder coordination skills.
  • Must be enthusiastic, innovative, and self-motivated, and able to work independently.
