Entrepreneurship in the territories: is it the right time?

ECHO Asia Thailand Foundation is a Christian non-profit organization working in the area of sustainable agriculture. We identify, verify, and disseminate agricultural options that are suitable for smallholder farmers to contribute to a world without hunger. We work with a large network of 5,000 organizations and individuals across Asia.
We are looking for a Research Assistant who can assist our Technical Resource Manager and Research Coordinator in implementing research trials on our farm in Chiang Mai. The Research Assistant will also play a role in producing technical resources and supporting the logistics of training activities.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Research
1.1. Work directly with farm staff/technicians to implement research trials, maintain experimental plots, and to collect data.
1.2. Coordinate with Farm Supervisor and Seed Bank Supervisor to plan research trials, including variety trials, livestock feed trials, and other experiments happening on site.
1.3. Support implementation of surveys and interviews in rural Thai communities, including logistical support and translation.
2. Technical Resourcing Support
2.1. Assist Technical Resourcing Manager with writing, translation, and editing of relevant articles and technical materials.
2.2. Work with Extension and Communications team to develop video scripts, film and produce technical videos in Thai and English.
2.3. Assist extension staff with curriculum development and related teaching resources, ensuring technical excellence and accuracy.
3. Logistics Support
3.1. Logistical support with activities such as purchasing research materials, submission of samples for laboratory analysis, support for research interns, and hosting research partners at ECHO Asia.
3.2. Provide logistics support to extension activities of ECHO Asia, domestically and regionally.
3.3. Provide occasional farm tours for relevant visitors and network partners
Required Competencies:
• A committed follower of Jesus Christ who affirms ECHO’s Statement of Faith and possesses character traits consistent with ECHO’s core values
• Native Thai speaker with proficiency in English.
• Demonstrated proficiency in computer programs including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Availability of working occasional weekends or flexible hours to accommodate groups and special events
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a team to set and achieve goals, solve problems, and implement plans as part of a larger team
• Valid driver’s license
Required Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in agricultural science, environmental science, natural resources, or related field
• Experience working in agricultural production, and/or agricultural extension programs
• Experience conducting research and field trials, experimental design, data collection, and data analysis is a strong advantage
• Experience in any of the areas of ECHO Asia’s research is a strong advantage. These include seed production and saving, soil science, livestock nutrition and feeding, biochar, and food systems.
