Position type: Part-time independent contractor

Contract period: December 2026–May 2027

About Engage Thailand

Engage Thailand is a US-based nonprofit founded by Thai human rights defenders to advance Thailand's fight for democracy and human rights on the international level.

We aim to achieve this goal by:

  • Strengthening international awareness around Thai democratic development and issues;
  • Mobilizing diasporic and international Thai communities (starting from within the US) to support and advocate for justice and democracy in Thailand, and;
  • Building relationships with international organizations and funders to funnel more resources to the network of Thai human rights defenders back home.

In 2027, Engage Thailand will launch a new program, Activists in Town, to facilitate yearly visits by Thai grassroots activists, artists, and civil society representatives to the US. The program will connect visitors with diaspora communities, civil society organizations, academics, policymakers, and other stakeholders to strengthen international solidarity and expand opportunities for advocacy.

As part of this program, Engage Thailand will also develop a diaspora-led volunteer network to share resources, coordinate events, and help visiting activists navigate the practical and strategic aspects of international engagement.

About the role

Engage Thailand is looking for a Bangkok-based, part-time Thailand Partnerships & Communications Associate to help strengthen the Thai pro-democracy movement's ties with Thai diasporic and international communities.

This is an opportunity to work closely with a small, growing nonprofit based in the United States, contribute ideas, and take initiative on work that matters. You'll help us stay connected to developments on the ground in Thailand, build relationships with grassroots partners, and bring important stories and perspectives to wider audiences.

Although this is a part-time role, your contributions will play a meaningful part in shaping how Engage Thailand works with partners in Thailand and advances its international engagement. We're looking for someone who is curious, proactive, and excited to try new things; someone who understands Thailand's sociopolitical landscape, enjoys connecting with people, and wants to make a tangible contribution to the movement for democracy and human rights.

Key responsibilities

Civil society partnerships and engagement

  • Represent Engage Thailand at relevant events, meetings, and other engagements in Thailand.
  • Identify and introduce potential Thai civil society partners to Engage Thailand, and help maintain relationships with existing partners.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration among Thai civil society partners, the Engage Thailand team, and US-based partners.
  • Adhere to strict digital security, data privacy, and confidentiality protocols when handling sensitive information regarding Thai civil society partners, activists, and research data.

Research and analysis

  • Monitor and research developments in Thai civil society, including organizations' focus areas, activities, networks, strategies, needs, and challenges.
  • Prepare concise research notes, updates, and briefings for the Engage Thailand team.

Communications and graphic design

  • Work with the Engage Thailand team to brainstorm and proofread content in Thai and English.
  • Write approximately 2–3 bilingual social media posts per month, translating relevant developments in Thailand into clear, accessible content.
  • Create graphics for Engage Thailand's weekly social media content, following the organization's established visual identity and design templates.

How to apply

Please email the following materials to Engage Thailand with the subject line "Application – Thailand Partnerships & Communications Associate - [Applicant's Name]."
