ABOUT THE FOUNDATION:
Forest Foundation Philippines (doing business as Philippine Tropical Forest Conservation Foundation (PTFCF), Inc.) is a non-stock, non-profit, non- governmental organization that provides grants and technical assistance to organizations and individuals that empower the people to protect and conserve the forests.
BACKGROUND:
The Philippines is a megadiverse country, yet it is considered a biodiversity hotspot and one of the most vulnerable to the impacts of the climate crisis. Majority of the population is exposed to hazards such as flooding, cyclones, droughts, and landslides, while the adverse impacts on vulnerable groups are amplified by gender inequalities and threats to natural resources.
The Philippines-Canada Partnership on Nature-based Solutions (NbS) for Climate Adaptation (PCP4NbS) is a new program of Forest Foundation Philippines in partnership with the Government of Canada. The program will be implemented between 2024 to 2028, and targets the three wins of biodiversity conservation, climate adaptation, and ensuring gender equality in natural-resource management.
PCP4NbS aims to achieve (1) improved decision-making for gender-responsive climate change adaptation planning, practices, and governance of community- and nature-based solutions (NbS); and (2) enhanced adoption of gender-responsive NbS with biodiversity co-benefits for climate adaptation of women and communities. Ultimately, the program seeks to contribute to strengthening climate resilience of communities, particularly rural and indigenous women, while ensuring co-benefits for natural resources and healthy ecosystems.
PCP4NbS will employ a participatory, holistic, and transdisciplinary form of natural-resource management, targeting project sites that have rich biodiversity and high climate vulnerability. Collaboration with Canadian institutions, both academic and from the private sector, will also be pursued for cross-sectoral partnerships and collective mobilization of knowledge and resources. Additional information on the program is available here.
To contribute to the program, the Foundation is calling for applications for a Gender Equality Specialist.
