German European School Singapore (GESS) is a world class, not for profit International School in Singapore that offers both the German Curriculum stream and the IB Curriculum stream.

Job Purpose
The Audio Visual Technician is responsible to support all events at the auditorium and other venues on campus. They work closely with all stakeholders to ensure lighting, sound and projection for events are prepared in a timely manner as well as providing on-site support during events. They are also expected to help to train students in audio, lighting, video and other technical skills required to run theatre productions.
It is the job holder’s responsibility to promote and safeguard the welfare of all children and young people. They will adhere to and ensure compliance with the relevant GESS Safeguarding / Child Protection Policy and Procedures. If the job holder identifies any instance that a child is suffering or likely to suffer significant harm (physically or emotionally) either at school or at home, they must report any concerns to the School’s Designated Safeguarding Lead or a member of the Safeguarding Team.
Key Accountabilities:
Key responsibilities
· Primary responsibility is to facilitate and provide on-site audio visual and lighting technical support for events.
· Set up, maintain and operate AV equipment, lighting equipment and stage platforms during school events, assemblies, and functions, ensuring optimal performance and quality.
· Ensure that events are executed at a high standard.
· Ensure that health & safety, rigging, protocols and technologies are upheld and maintained.
· Assist students with knowledge, training, resources, and application, when required.
· Liaise and plan directly with staff, contractors, and external freelancers.
Lighting & Sound
· Design Lighting and Sound for specific events.
· Operating and programming digital lighting board.
· Assist with maintenance and resources: managing lanterns, dimmer packs & lighting boards.
· Ordering lamps, connectors, cabling, gels, accessories etc.
· Setup and use microphones, recording voiceovers and effects.
· Identify, source, and integrate any necessary upgrades and installation works to replace old/broken sound systems/equipment.
· Setup of microphones, electronic musical instruments, and amplifiers.
· Presence at relevant rehearsals, mostly in the auditorium, to assist with lighting design, focusing of lights, QLab programming, and supporting other technical aspects of rehearsals.
Training & Support of Staff & Students
· Train, work and supervise students and/or interns to use AV equipment.
Equipment Supervision
· Conduct thorough examinations to identify defects and issues in equipment or systems.
· Recommend appropriate and effective solutions to rectify identified defects and improve overall functionality.
· Supervise and oversee the work conducted by external vendors, ensuring adherence to timelines, quality and safety standards.
Facility Management
· Maintain the control room, store room, and the overall auditorium space in a clean, safe, and organized manner.
· Responsibility for the upkeep of the auditorium, coordinating necessary maintenance and repairs.
Communicating
· Liaise with external vendors for auxiliary technical equipment where necessary.
· Facilitate works by external vendors.
· Collaborate with all relevant stakeholders including senior leadership, pedagogical staff and facilities department.
· Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills with students, teachers and other internal departments.
· Ensure smooth co-ordination of tasks by initiating discussions to promote progress.
· Attend various scheduled events planning and production meetings.
General
· Maintain a standard of personal image in keeping with the role.
· Open to working outside of normal work hours to provide on-site support to events.
· Operate within the policies of GESS.
· Undertake additional responsibilities as determined by Head of Events.
Qualifications and Experience
· Diploma/degree or equivalent preferred.
· Minimum three years of relevant experience.
· An established background of working in a professional theatre, education sector, or relevant experience within the arts.
· Competency with computerized lighting consoles and audio mixers and troubleshooting skills.
· Stage management experience (including prop making) a distinct advantage.
· Competency with MS Office 365, audio editing software (Mac computer).
· Sound knowledge and experience with QLab.
· Experience in lighting design.
· The ability to communicate well and work in a team is essential.
