IESR is looking for an Energy Policy and Market Analyst. The person in this position will be part of the IESR’s Social, Policy, and Economy (SPE) Research Group and will contribute to the evidence-building and advocacy process of IESR. The person is responsible in conducting an in-dept analysis on energy policy and market to support various research projects, including the identification of energy policy and market reform to support the acceleration of energy transition in Indonesia and assessing the implication of the reform to the socio-economy aspects, e.g. poverty, jobs, commodity prices.

The responsibilities of the Energy Policy and Market Analyst shall include, but not limited to, the following:

  1. Map and analyze Indonesia’s current energy policy and market (with a particular emphasize in the power market structure) landscape
  2. Identify potential reforms that are possible to deploy within the upcoming years, taking into reference the policy reform proposed in the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) Comprehensive Investment and Policy Plan (CIPP)
  3. Participate in research projects, particularly ones that involve the analysis of policy, market, and socioeconomics
  4. Contribute to the writing and/or production of related knowledge products (i.e. research reports, policy briefs, webtools, infographics, slide decks, etc.)
Profile
  • Minimum Bachelor’s in the field of energy policy, economics, energy or environmental engineering, development studies, or other relevant discipline from reputable universities with 2 years experience. Master’s degree or above is preferable
  • Minimum 2 years of working experience in market, socioeconomics, and policy impact analyses.
  • Excellent understanding of climate, energy, and environmental issues.
  • Understanding of energy market and renewable energy procurement process is an advantage
  • Understanding of correlation of socioeconomics and energy policy is an advantage
  • Experience in managing and analyzing datasets of energy and/or socioeconomic statistics
  • Familiarity with the JETP process is highly valuable
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office software, especially Excel (including macros and pivot tables); programming skill will be an advantage
  • Excellent written and oral knowledge of Bahasa Indonesia and English, including the ability to write a report/technical/briefing/policy paper
  • Ability to work in an intercultural environment
  • Willingness to learn and adaptability for new and relevant knowledge
  • Excellent time-management skills
