Konservasi Indonesia (KI) is seeking a qualified and motivated individual as Sumatra Forestry Manager. This position will lead the development of the environmental including forest management, biodiversity for Nature Climate Solution (NCS) program and provide technical supports to Sundaland ecoregion for projects. He/she is expected to work closely with KI NCS Team, Conservation International (CI) NCS and Moore Center teams at regional and global offices.

Sumatra Forestry Manager will lead KI’s forestry program and implementation in Sumatra. He/she will deliver training to KI staff as well as to other partners providing the field team with necessary skills for the implementation. He/she is responsible for building a strong conservation network where KI plays a central role in the network. He/she will involve in development of funding opportunities for building science and a long-term program for sustainability.

This position will supervise staff. Duties are performed under Sundaland Director supervision.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead Sumatra forestry strategic interventions which include biodiversity conservation, forest and land use plan management and its supporting policies.
  • In collaboration with the field manager, provide strategic and technical guidance, supports and implementation strategy to field staff for the effective delivery.
  • Revisit the project workplan, KPIs and monitoring plan on a monthly or quarterly basis to track the progress of program implementation.
  • Build connection within technical staffs in NS, Jakarta, and global team for specific areas to support improved Sumatra forestry strategic intervention.
  • Prepare donor report in collaboration with relevant staff.
  • Provide technical inputs to KI program strategy to align with local government priorities and the needs of the landscapes which includes community and other stakeholders.
  • Support the development of new proposals and concepts and proactively propose new ideas based on current field condition and long-term vision of the landscapes.
  • Support partner organizations and consultants to work together to achieve various target of NS program activities in North Sumatra
  • Represent KI in meetings or events at provincial level and conduct regular meetings with respective government offices to update the progress and ensure the alignment with government priorities.
  • Build strong relationships and collaborations with other stakeholders in the field includes local government, private sectors, universities, and NGOs.
Profile

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A degree in forestry, rural development, biodiversity conservation, natural resource management-related science.
  • Minimum 10 years of full-time work experience in relevant field, with program implementation and project management experience.
  • Experience in managing projects with multifaceted landscape and intervention, planning and support management on conservation areas management, multi-stakeholder communications, community-based conservation, project proposal preparation, supervision, evaluation within Indonesia. This includes grant management (e.g. due diligence, financial monitoring) and managing multi-donor agency.
  • Ability to deftly manage projects with strong critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills and balance attention to detail with big-picture thinking.
  • Ability to design training and biodiversity monitoring tools and reporting in timely manner.
  • Ability to manage professional relationships and effective communication.
  • Highly organized and systematic with strong time management skills
  • Coordination skill and ability to planning and managing simultaneous and interdisciplinary tasks.
  • Good leadership, skill, and ability to work with variety of skilled technical staffs, NGOs, urban and rural communities, and central, province and district government representatives.
  • Strong networking and relationship with donor and other stakeholders.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Ability to work an irregular schedule including weekends, travel extensively and on short notice, when required.
  • Ability to work in a remote location for periods of time, when required.
  • Work requires only minor physical exertion and/or physical strain.
