The Social Impact Project Officer will support the subject matter experts on project implementation related to human rights due diligence, child labor and women and youth inclusion in agriculture and other social initiatives. Human Rights is one of ofi’s high priority areas due to the growing global demand for products and ingredients that are sustainable and socially responsible, as well as the global call to action for multinational companies to work through multiple pathways (i.e. addressing salient human rights risks in company supply chains, protection of children’s rights and advancing women’s contributions) towards food system transformation.

Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Human Rights and Inclusion Manager, the project officer’s tasks will include, but are not limited to:

Manage various pilot projects for implementation of Agri-Supplier Code (ASC) Verification ensuring this process helps drive impact in the field (25% of time):

  • Develop material and train field teams on the ASC verification process
  • Liaise with digital teams to ensure all teams have access to ASC verification digital tools
  • Support field teams with ASC verification sampling, survey deployment and results analysis
  • Support field teams in developing ASC verification reports
  • Support field teams in developing ASC compliance action plans

Manage pilot projects for Monitoring and Remediation Systems for Child Labour and Forced Labour (20% of time):

  • Develop material and train teams on the CLMRS and FLMRS processes and systems
  • Liaise with digital teams to ensure all tools are tested and ‘live’ for relevant teams
  • Liaise with digital on an ongoing basis to ensure teams have access to digital tools.
  • Support field teams with survey deployment and results analysis
  • Support field teams in data collection and reporting
  • Support field teams in putting in place remediation plans and monitoring

Run the ofi annual ‘Kickstarter Program’ to advance human rights impacts in the field (15% of time):

  • Plan communication strategy for the launch
  • Review proposals and seek clarification if needed
  • Award proposals with final budgets and support transfer of funds
  • Receive and review mid-term reports to ensure projects are on track
  • Receive and review final reports
  • Create a final report on all Kickstarter projects awarded in the given year

Manage roll-out of global grievance mechanism (15% of time):

  • Support field teams with trainings on the global grievance mechanism
  • Support in the development and dissemination of awareness raising materials for ofi’s stakeholders in farming communitiesSupport field teams to set up optimal internal structures for timely response and resolution of grievances, gather and share best practices.
  • Prepare reports for management

Support the HR&I manager to design, guide, report, and advise internal and external stakeholder as needed (10% of time).

  • Support the development of presentations, reports and other materials for internal and external discussions on various human rights priorities
  • Support coordination between teams, follow-up and tracking of tasks

Support ofi field teams in select social impact project implementation (15% of time)

  • Monitor project implementation and donor reporting
  • Coordinate project partnerships and provide technical support for activity implementation
  • Monitor financial reporting
Profile

Requirements

  • A Master’s degree in human rights, social sciences, development studies or other related fields
  • 2-3 years of professional experience working on business sustainability, with a focus on social topics such as human rights, labor rights, livelihoods, inclusion etc.
  • Knowledge of the agricultural sector and rural community development
  • Strong knowledge and practical experience in project management and coordination
  • A proactive, solution-oriented, and innovative mindset along with sound decision-making skills
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills, with excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate with a wide range of stakeholders on complex issues
  • Fluent in English and working proficiency in French preferred
