Description of the mission

Position Overview

The Associate, Global Strategic Partnerships, supports Room to Read’s global fundraising goals by managing assigned donor relationships, coordinating institutional funding opportunities, and supporting the development and delivery of strategic partnerships.

This is an execution-focused, highly collaborative role that combines donor stewardship, proposal coordination, opportunity tracking, and support for Gifts-in-Kind partnerships. The role includes direct interaction with donors and external partners, both virtually and in face-to-face settings, representing Room to Read in meetings, briefings, and partner engagements as appropriate.

The Associate reports to the Director of Strategic Partnerships. While the Director of Strategic Partnerships provides strategic direction and oversight, the Associate is responsible for day-to-day coordination, follow-through, and managing multiple priorities across teams and partners.

Key Responsibilities

Donor Stewardship & Portfolio Management

  • Manage and steward an assigned portfolio of bilateral, multilateral, institutional, and prize-based donors generating approximately USD 500K–750K+ annually.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned partners, supporting in-person and virtual donor meetings, relationship management, communications, and ongoing engagement.
  • Participate in donor briefings, meetings, and stewardship activities, independently or alongside senior staff, as appropriate.
  • Support grant renewals, extensions, and funding upgrades in coordination with the Director of Strategic Partnerships.

Gifts-in-Kind (GIK) Partnerships

  • Support the coordination and tracking of Room to Read’s USD 4–6M+ annual Gifts-in-Kind portfolio, working across internal teams and external partners to ensure commitments, timelines, and documentation are aligned.
  • Track partner commitments, key milestones, and required documentation to support stewardship and reporting.
  • Support internal coordination related to GIK partnerships, ensuring information is shared accurately and on time.

Pipeline Development & Opportunity Tracking

  • Research, identify, and track new bilateral, multilateral, institutional, and prize-based funding opportunities aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Support proposal pipeline management, opportunity tracking, and revenue forecasting in coordination with the Strategic Partnerships team.

Proposal Development & Coordination

  • Draft, edit, or coordinate donor-facing materials, including concept notes, proposals, presentations, and reports.
  • Coordinate inputs from program, finance, and operations teams to ensure proposals are accurate, compliant, and submitted on time.
  • Support proposal review, clarification, and negotiation processes with senior staff, as required.

Internal Coordination & Systems

  • Support the handover of funded projects from proposal stage to implementation, in line with internal project management processes.
  • Maintain accurate donor records, opportunity tracking, and reporting in Salesforce or other fundraising systems.
  • Ensure consistent documentation, tracking, and follow-up across assigned partnerships and proposals.

Expectations in the First 3–6 Months

  • Take on increasing responsibility for coordinating and tracking Gifts-in-Kind partnerships.
  • Actively support bilateral and multilateral opportunity tracking and proposal workflows.
  • Independently manage assigned donors, proposals, and internal coordination following onboarding and handover, with limited supervision.
  • Participate confidently in donor meetings and external partner interactions.
  • Identify and flag potential new funding or partnership opportunities for the Strategic Partnerships team.
