  • Detailed mapping of the specified agriculture commodity value chain in the country, including value chain actors, their access to inputs, trading volumes, cost of marketing, and marketing margins by using key informant surveys.
  • Assess historical and geographical mapping of supply and demand trends of the selected commodity.
  • Identify key challenges and opportunities at each level of the commodity value chain. Also assess challenges and opportunities by geography, farm size, and socio-economic characteristics of the producers and traders.
  • Identify strategies and innovative interventions to solve the key problems faced by the value chain actors.
  • Review existing government policies and programs that promote production and trading of the selected commodities.
  • Assess the quality standards and safety regulations in relation to the production, distribution, and trading of the selected agricultural commodity in the country.
  • Meet with government institutions, industry, and private sector representatives in the selected value chain, including representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, trade associations, agribusiness companies, and research organizations, to identify key priorities in developing markets for the selected commodity.
  • Provide Save the Children team with an initial strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) analysis of the value chain in the country and preferably by geographic focus.
  • Provide intelligence on the landscape of local, regional, and international organizations working in the sectors relevant to the anticipated thematic priorities of the USDA FFPr project.
  • Support the Save the Children team to identify local partners and engage with them.
  • Validate information included in the proposal based on Vietnam’s context to ensure the feasibility and sustainability of the solutions.
  • Support the development of Country Office (CO) capacity and staffing component of the proposal.
  • Other tasks assigned during the assignment.
Profile
  • At least 10+ years of professional expertise working in agriculture value chains, preferably in Vietnam and in the targeted value chain.
  • Master's degree in agriculture or a related subject; a higher degree is preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge and network in Vietnam and in the specified value chain, including connections with government officials, private sector entities, and value chain actors.
  • Ability to travel (if required) with the Save the Children team at short notice during the project timeframe.
  • Excellent analytical, writing, and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Knowledge of U.S. Government programming is desired but not essential.
