The Wildlife Conservation (WC) Strategy for FY21-FY25 aims to establish baseline species information in project sites and enhance the effectiveness of wildlife crime prosecution. The WC work plan for FY25 aligns with these objectives, involving activities such as organising capacity-building workshops and field surveys. These initiatives will primarily take place in the Ulu Ai Kanan Landscape and the Forest Management Units (FMUs).

Objectives

  • To support the Senior Field Biologist in organising training workshops.
  • To support the Senior Field Biologist in conducting field surveys encompassing social and wildlife surveys.
  • To contribute to the management of physical and digital assets as well as inventory processes of the WC team.
Profile

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with relevant government agencies, FMUs, and other stakeholders to facilitate training workshops on wildlife monitoring guidelines and wildlife crime prosecutions. Develop metrics to assess the effectiveness of training and oversee the coordination of other essential project events.
  • Follow on field trips to engage in Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) activities and conduct surveys to gauge local community perceptions regarding wildlife, orangutan population, and species distribution.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Field Biologist, Senior Programme Managers, Head of Conservation Sarawak, and other Sarawak Conservation Programme Officers to execute the tasks outlined above.
