The Role

As we expand our impact, SUSTAIN is seeking an experienced, highly analytical Economic Policy Specialist. You will lead our economic research, evaluate existing policy frameworks, and design data-driven economic arguments to advocate for sustainable development, green investments, and systemic policy reform.

Objective of the Assignment

The primary objective of the Economic Policy Specialist is to provide robust economic analysis and policy recommendations that support SUSTAIN’s strategic goals. You will translate complex economic data into actionable policy positions, ensuring SUSTAIN’s advocacy is grounded in rigorous economic reality.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Who we are looking for: A systems thinker who understands both the math behind economic policy and the human story behind the green transition.

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred) in Economics, Public Policy, Environmental Economics, Economic Development, Sustainable Development, or a closely related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of professional experience in economic policy analysis, research, or advocacy within a think tank, government body, private sector, mass media, or international NGO.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Deep understanding of market-based environmental instruments, climate finance, and macro/micro-economic principles related to sustainability.
  • Proficiency in quantitative analysis, economic modeling, statistical analysis tools, and data visualization is highly desirable.
  • Soft Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to translate complex economic concepts for non-technical audiences.

Scope of Work & Key Responsibilities

  • Data-Driven Policy & Research (60%): Evaluate national and international economic frameworks, fiscal budgets, and green tax structures. You will conduct quantitative and qualitative research on instruments like fiscal incentives-disincentives and green industrial policies, translating complex data sets into high-impact white papers, policy briefs, and compelling narratives that shape public discourse.
  • Strategic Advocacy & Engagement (40%): Serve as the economic voice of SUSTAIN in high-level policy dialogues, coalitions, and government consultations. You will develop the core economic arguments that turbocharge our public campaigns and build deep strategic relationships with economists, academia, and aligned NGOs to amplify our collective impact.

Key Deliverables

  • Series of economic - sustainable policy briefs and real-time updates on relevant legislative changes.
  • A minimum of 2 major research reports or white papers per year.
  • Impact assessment models for proposed sustainable economic interventions.
  • Tailored presentations, briefing notes, and talking points for high-level advocacy meetings.
