Description of the mission

350.org is looking for a Political Strategist who drives sharp political strategy at the heart of global campaigns and advocacy work of 350.org across countries and political moments to land global and in-country political wins for the just and equitable energy transition.

About the Political Strategist

350.org’s mission is to keep carbon in our atmosphere to a safe level, below 350 parts per million. We do this by mobilising ordinary people to campaign for universal access to clean energy and an end to fossil fuels. 350.org has strong campaigns, communications, and network power. We are now expanding our political strategy capacity to help consistently convert this momentum into political outcomes.

This role sits at that intersection. As a Political Strategist, you will help translate 350.org's campaign momentum into concrete policy wins. Working across country and global teams, you'll identify political openings, sharpen our positioning at key moments (including COP cycles), and deepen our influence with policymakers, media, and political actors worldwide.

This is a funded, fixed-term position with a strong focus on fossil fuel phase-out (FFPO) and a just energy transition supporting global campaign priorities, and strengthening political strategy across priority regions.

  • Support the positioning of 350.org as a credible and influential voice on energy politics, renewables, and fossil fuel phase-out
  • Contribute to external coalition spaces (e.g., climate and energy alliances), ensuring 350.org’s political strategy is clearly represented

Internal Coordination & Intelligence:

  • Strengthen coordinated ways of working between campaigns, communications, policy, and country teams to align and collectively deliver agreed strategies
  • Capture, synthesize, and apply political intelligence from global and national contexts to sharpen 350.org's approach
  • Ensure consistent political framing across regions and campaigns
  • Contribute to internal planning: campaign strategy development and global programme alignment
  • Contribute to internal planning processes, including campaign strategy development and global programme alignment

Strategic Development:

  • Develop and implement political strategies for fossil fuel phase-out and the energy transition
  • Contribute to work on international processes advancing FFPO and a just energy transition (e.g., global frameworks and agreements)
  • Ensure strategic continuity across COP cycles (COP31 to COP32 and beyond)
  • Provide analysis and insight that strengthens 350.org's overall political approach

Organisational and Team Initiatives:

  • Actively contribute to 350.org’s values, including equity, justice, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI principles)
  • Together with the team lead, actively work on sharing skills and developing the capacities of colleagues in country teams.
  • Represent 350.org in external spaces as appropriate
  • Develop effective partnerships with teams within and across departments (Campaigns, Networks, Engagement, and Communications)
  • Contribute to organisational priorities beyond core responsibilities as needed
