Role Requirements

Please note, we are a small team and are much more interested in hiring a motivated, impassioned individual than we are finding the perfect skillset. If you believe that you will be an excellent fit for our organisation but don't exactly match the criteria, we still welcome you to apply!

  • Experience in curriculum development and classroom facilitation.
  • Confidence working across multiple education contexts, from formal classrooms to rural schoolhouses.
  • Confidence in monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) practice, and a working knowledge of programme co-design processes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience line managing small teams.
  • Confidence facilitating team training & 1-on-1 professional development.
  • Confidence in basic budgeting and reporting processes.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Competent with digital tools (e.g. Google Workspace, Notion)
  • Positive, empathetic, and culturally sensitive approach to teamwork and community engagement.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of Bukit Lawang Trust, including education, conservation, and sustainability.
  • Willingness to live and work in on-site accommodation and engage directly with local projects.
  • Able to communicate confidently and clearly in both English and Bahasa Indonesia

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in the non-profit, NGO, or international development sector.
  • Knowledge of the socioeconomic context in rural North Sumatra, particularly of Leuser buffer zone communities
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection best practices.
  • Experience supporting community or environmental project delivery.

The ideal candidate will be able to start the role in late August/early September 2026. BLT delivers programmes across a number of communities, and a willingness to travel via motorbike to these locations is a requirement for the role.
