Position Purpose

The Community Advocate is at the forefront of the Mission of the Centre for Sustainability PH to land conservation, and to mobilizing, supporting, and championing the Indigenous Peoples and local communities of Sultan Peak in Narra, Palawan. The contributions of the Community Advocate will directly impact the realization of a protected area, reflecting the commitment of CS to fostering a sustainable and resilient future for the environment, Indigenous People and local communities of Palawan.

Type of Contract: Fixed Term, Full Time

Expected duration: 2 years &/or upon legal establishment of proposed Sultan Peak Critical Habitat

Project Site/s: Proposed Sultan Peak Critical Habitat in Narra, Palawan

Base: Centre for Sustainability PH, Inc. headquarters, Barangay Santa Monica, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Primary Responsibilities & Role in the Organization:

The Community Advocate is responsible for liaising with and lobbying the various community and multi-level government stakeholders toward the establishment of the proposed Sultan Peak Critical Habitat. This includes cultivating and maintaining stakeholder communications and relationships; coordinating and facilitating stakeholder workshops and meetings; representing the Centre for Sustainability PH (CS) in officially communicating to stakeholders progress and accomplishments, as well as objectives and goals, of the Sultan Peak project; and maintaining adequate documentation of these relationships and activities to meet donor requirements and ensure project success. The Community Advocate will also provide general support to the team across CS programs and operations as needs arise.

Essential Function:

  • Mobilize Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs) for consultation meetings and workshops toward the establishment of Sultan Peakas a protected area.
  • Organize consultation meetings and workshops to secure Free and Prior Informed Consent (FPIC) from the Tagbanua tribe in Sultan Peak for the projects of the Centre for Sustainability PH in Sultan Peak.
  • Organize consultation meetings and attend government sessions with Barangay leaders to discuss the proposed protected area designation of Sultan Peak, and acquire necessary resolutions in alignment with this goal.
  • Organize consultation meetings and attend government sessions with Municipal leaders to discuss the proposed protected area designation of Sultan Peak, and acquire necessary resolutions in alignment with this goal.
  • Prepare regular reports on stakeholder relationships & feedback, and project progress toward objectives and goals to inform team decision-making, strategic planning, and report to project donors.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

COMPENSATION: Typical starting range is 25,000-35,000 Philippine Pesos which will be based on skills and experience. Annual performance increase may be available but not guaranteed.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  • Above all, the ideal candidate will be passionate and determined to conserve the environment and make an impact, enjoys working with people in a team environment, and is goal-oriented, a self-starter, and problem solver.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Humanities &/or Social Sciences, including Psychology, Development Studies, Social Work, or related field.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and networking skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including indigenous communities, government agencies, and academic institutions.
  • Preferably 1-2 years of related work experience. Fresh graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • Willingness to work in rural areas and engage closely with indigenous communities in Palawan.
  • Sensitive and knowledgeable of local community culture and rights.

DESIRABLE CRITERIA

  • Ability to drive a motorcycle &/or willingness to become licensed.
  • Understanding of the political and environmental issues facing Palawan, indigenous people, and local communities is strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of political structures, legislative processes, and government operations for protected area designation.
