About The Role
We are seeking a highly motivated Associate Director to play a central leadership role in CPI’s global climate finance and policy work, based in our Jakarta, Indonesia office.
Reporting directly to the Regional Director, the Associate Director will help establish and grow CPI’s regional presence, strengthen partnerships, and contribute strategically to the organisation’s portfolio.
The Associate Director will lead the development and delivery of projects, drive business development efforts, and represent CPI with key external stakeholders. They will also play a pivotal role in supporting the Regional Director in building and supporting a high-performing team as the office scales up. Beyond programme and revenue responsibilities, the Associate Director will model CPI’s values and foster a collaborative, high-performance culture across teams.
This role requires strong judgment, a high degree of autonomy, and the ability to operate effectively across geographies, cultures, and disciplines, while remaining closely aligned with CPI’s global strategy and leadership.
Roles and responsibilities
The role will support Regional Director in executing the following responsibilities and others as assigned:
Program Oversight
- Lead the development and delivery of climate finance initiatives, projects, and analytical products across Indonesia and South-east Asia, particularly around issues of capital mobilization for decarbonization.
- Oversee project delivery, including timelines, budgets, quality control, and compliance with CPI standards.
- Ensure outputs are analytically rigorous, methodologically sound, and delivered on time and within budget.
- Work closely with CPI analysts and project managers to develop world -class research agendas and products.
- Apply, develop, and refine methodologies drawing on economics, finance, public policy, risk management, and related disciplines.
- Provide strategic guidance and support to local staff delivering convening and analytical services in partnership with development finance institutions, with a focus on how the institutions mobilize investment, including the design, methodologies, messaging, and format of analytical products.
- Author and/or provide strategic feedback on white papers on program topics as requested.
Stakeholder Engagement and Business Development
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key local and international stakeholders, including government ministries, multilateral institutions, donors, financial institutions, corporates, and peer organizations.
- Represent CPI at local and international climate finance events, meetings, and other convenings to maintain influence and impact.
- Identify, pursue, and support fundraising, partnership, and business development opportunities including engaging with current and potential funders, and developing proposals in coordination with CPI leadership.
- Maintain excellent relationships with selected key stakeholders and (potential) clients, as agreed with CPI’s leadership team.
- With support from Global Operations and Communications team, organize external stakeholder events as requested.
Internal Management
- Build capacity of the growing Jakarta team and supporting positive working culture.
- Provide strategic guidance on programmatic and operational matters.
- Support the implementation of organizational processes and norms.
- Oversee staffing and resource management, including forecasting, allocation, and performance management, to meet the needs of a high-performing team.
- Lead office budget preparation and monitoring, in close collaboration with the Regional Director and global teams to ensure alignment.
- Collaborate with the Global Operations and Finance teams to ensure the effective management of the Jakarta office and its integration into the broader organization.
