Role Description

This is a fulltime role for a Conservation Director located in the Ho Chi Minh City Metropolitan Area. Conservation Director Job Description

Grant Management (60%)

- Lead recruitment, training, and mentoring of the Board of Management to ensure effective performance and fulfillment of Board of Management terms of reference.

- Oversee calls for proposals, evaluate submissions, and collaborate with the Board of Management to recommend awards over $50,000 to the CV Executive Director.

- Support the Board of Management in managing a small grants program for awards of $50,000 or less.

- Provide training and mentoring to civil society organizations in biodiversity hotspots to enhance proposal development and grant performance, contributing to conservation outcomes.

- Ensure grantee compliance with CV’s Environmental and Social Management Framework and Operational Manual through training, technical assistance, and monitoring.

- Monitor grantee and portfolio performance by reviewing programmatic and financial reports and conducting semi-annual supervision missions.

- Track portfolio-level implementation, impact, and lessons learned, preparing annual portfolio overviews and managing mid-term and final evaluations.

- Support the Board of Management and the CV Monitoring and Evaluation Unit to implement performance monitoring at project, portfolio, and global levels.

- Facilitate coordination between the Board of Management and key CV management partners to ensure smooth implementation.

- Address implementation challenges and compliance issues at grantee, Board of Management, and portfolio levels.

- Integrate gender considerations into all grant-making processes.

- Build positive relationships with local government authorities through outreach.

- Represent CV in conservation forums to foster collaboration with conservation partners.

- Contribute to developing and implementing CV grant-making policies, tools, and protocols to enhance mission effectiveness and efficiency.

Donor Engagement and Management (10%)

- Engage CV donor partners to identify opportunities for synergy and complementary investments.

- Serve as the technical lead in cultivating new donors, providing expertise and supporting proposal development for new funding.

- Prepare and contribute to reports for CV’s regional donors.

- Organize and accompany donor visits to CV conservation projects to support supervision and attract new donors.

- Develop co-funding alliances with potential donors to increase financing for biodiversity hotspots.

Program Management (10%)

- Participate in wide program development and lessons-learned initiatives.

- Support the operational tasks, including compiling information and drafting content for communications purposes.

Profile

Education, Experience, Skills, and Abilities

The following requirements represent the minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for successful performance. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Required

- Master’s degree in biology, ecology, natural resources management, or a related field, with at least eight years of professional experience in conservation project management and grant-making, or an equivalent combination.

- Proven success in team leadership with strong communication and collaboration skills.

- Demonstrated ability to build effective partnerships with donors, government officials, and key stakeholders.

- In-depth knowledge of conservation-related issues.

- Fluency in written and spoken English.

- Excellent writing and communication skills, adaptable to diverse audiences and cultural contexts.

- Ability to analyze and present data and program information clearly, both orally and in writing, in non-technical language.

- Proficiency in financial analysis and risk assessment.

- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office.

- Ability to work effectively in diverse settings, from office environments to field locations.

- Experience working independently and as part of a dynamic, international team.

Preferred

- Proficiency in English and Vietnamese

- Field experience in conservation.

- Knowledge or experience with conservation and economic issues in at least one biodiversity projects.

- Experience in capacity building, technical assistance, and monitoring and evaluation in CV projects.
