German European School Singapore (GESS) is a world class, not for profit International School in Singapore that offers both the German Curriculum stream and the IB Curriculum stream.

Currently, more than 1850 students are learning at our international school supported by more than 400 full time and part time academic and administrative staff members.

Creative Arts and Design Technician

Commencing: 06 January 2025 (negotiable)

The Creative Arts and Design Technician supports teaching staff and students in the areas of Creative Arts, Design, Service, Sustainability, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) within the GESS BeyondClassrooms program. This role involves building positive partnerships that enhance teaching and learning, as well as assisting with activities and events. The Creative Arts and Design Technician is expected to be an active, motivated member of the GESS community, aligning their efforts with the school’s mission, vision, and strategic goals.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities

General duties

·     Organise materials and prepare resources for the, BeyondClassrooms programs, including but not limited to, service and sustainability, creative arts, design, innovation and STEM teams.

Design department

·     Maintain machinery, power tools and other equipment and ensure they are in always in safe working order.

·     Ensure extraction systems are regularly checked and cleared.

·     Liaise with the First Aid team to ensure first aid boxes are stocked.

·     Liaise with the facilities team for support on repairs, maintenance and installation support.

·     Undertake other adhoc Design tasks as assigned, such as construction of teaching aids, enhancing the layout and teaching spaces and displays.

Creative Arts department

·     Assist with maintaining a well organised Visual Arts storerooms and the control of equipment care, working condition and cleanliness.

·     Maintain, service and organise print requests of posters using large format printer and software.

·     Assist with repairs and maintenance of equipment for Visual Art, Theatre and Music department.

·     Assist with material preparation, presentation and gallery exhibition for the Visual Art, Theatre and Music department.

·     Assist with school music and theatre production stage set design, construction and installation.

Innovation and STEM teams

·     Assist with material preparation, construction and exhibition for, service and sustainability, STEM and Innovation events.

Additional responsibilities

·     The Creative Arts and Design Technician will also be requested to commit to events beyond the classroom, embodying the spirit of community and supporting Creative Arts, Design, STEM and Innovation initiatives. This includes, but is not limited to, school trips, participating in after-school and weekend events.

Knowledge and Experience

·     Bachelor’s degree preferred.

·     Recognised experience with construction materials, machinery and equipment.

·     Excellent interpersonal communication and organisation skills as a team player with a positive attitude.

·     Ability to be a proactive problem solver and take initiatives.

·     Attention to detail and presentation.

·     Ability to plan and meet deadlines.

·     Ability to work independently, prioritise and record all workload.

·     Ability to be flexible.

Technical and Soft Skills

With a demonstrable ability to communicate professionally, to work collaboratively and build relationships at all levels and across diverse cultures and generations, will also be:

·        Strong communication and collaboration skills both verbal and written.

·        Proficiency with Apple Mac, PC, and CAD software (TinkerCAD, Fusion 360, Adobe Illustrator).

·        Experience with workshop machinery for wood, metal, and plastics to construct a range of products.

·        Health and Safety certification or equivalent in a workshop setting.

·        Positive and enthusiastic attitude and personality.

Keen to collaborate and share your specialist expertise, you will be a fitting ambassador for the school. You will communicate with confidence across diverse audiences and situations, using your expertise to build strong relationships across the GESS community.

 

Our School

The German European School Singapore (GESS) is a multi-lingual, not-for-profit, German international school in Singapore with a distinct European flavour. As an accredited ‘Excellent German School Abroad’, the German Section of GESS offers all major German school leaving certificates.

 

Our European Section offers tuition in English for students from grade 1 - 12 across all three IB programmes (the PYP, the MYP and the IB Diploma Programme) as an authorised IB World School.

 

Children aged 2 years onwards can enroll in our Preschool where children are following the PYP programme in German-speaking, English-speaking or bilingual groups.
