Description of the mission

Role Description

The Legal Rights and Natural Resources Center (LRC) is a non-profit that promotes the rights of indigenous peoples and poor upland rural communities. Founded in 1987, it provides legal services, develops research and policy, and advocates and campaigns for laws and actions that benefit people and nature.

LRC is seeking an Advocacy Officer who will help implement LRC’s just minerals transition program. This role requires a well-rounded professional who will be engaging institutions, supporting communities, and consolidating youth action.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Support the institutional engagement of the Center related to a just minerals transition (JMT) policy;
  2. Provide support to the Center for mining policy analysis and engagement;
  3. Coordinate and implement key events of the SOS Yamang Bayan Network, including the General Assembly, policy fora, etc.;
  4. Implement the Friends of the Earth School - JMT Module and other events geared toward the youth, in line with a just minerals transition;
  5. Implement the Alam Mo Ba? Community Capacity Building to strengthen local access to justice related to mining;
  6. Pursue and implement joint activities with partners for the campaign for a just minerals transition and related environmental frameworks or efforts;
  7. Support research and policy development related to extractivism and a just minerals transition;
  8. Work with Influencers toward the popularization of a just minerals transition;
  9. Work with the LRC focal point persons or suppliers in the production of timely and effective communications materials; and
  10. Work with the LRC Secretariat toward the promotion of a just minerals transition, and related environmental policy work.

Profile

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Development Studies, Political Science, Community Development, Economics, Communications, Engineering, or any related fields

Experience:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in campaigns or advocacy for a non-profit
  • Desirable: Experience working in or with government institutions

Skills:

  • Advocacy and policy analysis
  • Ability to organize public events
  • Exceptional multi-tasking and stakeholder management skills
  • Results-focus approach
  • Writing skills
  • Knowledge of Binisaya or Hiligaynon is an advantage
