Job Overview:

This position will be responsible for quantity and quality in selecting and purchasing beans, maintaining sustainable relationships with fermenters/ pod-farmers, and ensuring Marou has the best cocoa beans.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for quality in bean selection/ purchasing (based on Marou Internal Standard)
  • Responsible for quality in improving fermentation processes (Giving advice for farmers based on Marou Guideline)
  • Responsible for good practices of pre-fermentation process to ensure the best fermentation.

Cacao Sourcing Development:

  • Survey and update the bean supply and market
  • Survey, expand, discover new potential pod farmers/ fermenters/ areas of cacao
  • Evaluation of current practice, productivity, and farming issue based on Internal Guidelines / expert advice.

Relationship management:

  • Maintain and develop the relationship with fermenters/ pod-farmers
  • Well management of cacao network from farmer to fermenter.
  • Coordinate with related departments to participate in projects to develop cacao beans
  • Solid communication with and providing support to trainer/ expert (if any)/ Line Manager

Contract/policy execution:

  • Responsibility for the execution of purchase contracts, and bonus policies.
  • Solid communication with, and/or providing support to the finance and logistics team

Sustainability Development:

  • Support for implementing sustainability cacao development projects and strategy regarding agronomy specialty in cacao tree, and quality for cacao bean fermentation.
  • Understand the risks of quality variation and proactively solve the raised issues regarding quality and farmer relationships.
  • Training of farming practices, and fermentation process to reach the standard quality bean.
  • Participate in the cacao traceability project by delivering training to fermenters on the use of mobile applications and ensuring the maintenance of the system platform – FA mapping by Traceverified
  • Other tasks assigned by the Manager.
Profile

Requirements:

  • Graduated from University majoring in Food Technology, Biotechnology, Agriculture, Plant Science
  • Have experience working in the agricultural field
  • Sensory ability is an advantage
  • Interest in sustainable agriculture and responsible sourcing.
  • Willingness to travel as often as required
  • Fluent in English (both written & spoken)
  • Proficiency in MS Office (word, PowerPoint, excel,...)
  • Good communication, negotiation & teamwork skills
  • Honest, responsible, creative and innovative.
