ABOUT NEXUS FOR DEVELOPMENT
Nexus for Development mobilises climate finance to accelerate the growth of climate positive enterprises across Southeast Asia, with a focus on carbon and debt financing. Founded in 2009, Nexus is an international, not-for-profit organisation registered in Singapore with an operational team based in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
Through carbon finance and impact investing, we support enterprises and projects working on clean energy, clean cooking, clean water, waste management, and climate resilience. As one of the early pioneers of carbon finance in the region, we help organisations navigate complex carbon markets and unlock the capital needed to scale their climate solutions, while our impact investing strategy provides SMEs and social enterprises with flexible, uncollateralised loans that help them scale their climate solutions to low-income communities.
As a not-for-profit organisation, we’re not driven by shareholder returns; we prioritise ensuring that climate finance genuinely benefits the local enterprises, communities, and ecosystems behind the projects.
Following the successful pilot phase of our Pioneer Facility – which deployed 11 loans across six countries with zero defaults – we're entering an exciting period of growth.
The team are focused on three key areas of growth:
- Expanding our investment portfolio
- Secure new investors and funders
- Closer cross team collaboration to deepen carbon finance partnerships
