The Solar Engineer will provide support in electrical design, engineering, procurement and project management for utility scale solar and other renewable energy projects as required. In support of solar projects, the individual will be responsible for performing and/or managing Solar PV Balance of System electrical system designs including AC and DC collector systems, transmission, substation, and interconnection design engineering work associated with renewable energy projects with limited supervision.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Analyze drawings, layouts, sketches and other related data to determine the capacity of the solar PV system as well as recommend the PV modules and inverters to be used
  • Conduct survey visits of areas using various measuring tools and testing equipment
  • Provide project descriptions and layouts for the proposals
  • Develop designs using advanced computer software (PVsyst, Sunny Design, AutoCAD) in finalizing specificationsKnowledge in other materials and software such as Sketchup, ETAP, Solar Pathfinder, PV Studio, Solar GIS, and NREL SWERA
  • Research new development and innovations
  • Provide Single Line Diagram and Bill of Materials of the DC Side of the solar PV System
  • Determine the PV mounting system to be used
  • Review and consider cost, safety and effectiveness of the materials and equipment
  • Coordinate with other teams to accomplish required tasks
  • Monitor the progress and accomplishments of each member of the team
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
  • Write and present reports
Profile

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Licensed engineer, preferably in Electrical or Civil Engineering.
  • At least 3 years of experience as a Design Engineer or similar position, working with and leading engineering projects
  • Previous experience in solar PV systems is an advantage
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, MS Excel, MS Office, MS Project
  • PV Installer Certification is a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Driven, responsible, punctual, and know how to get things done
