Role Purpose

This role involves managing a portfolio of pathology assays and physiology tests within a project or routine platform. The successful candidate will provide expertise in pest and pathogen handling and culture, conduct scientific research, and support day-to-day laboratory, greenhouse, and field activities. This includes tasks such as planting, data collection,disease screening, and protocol development. The role also contributes to plant disease surveys, diagnosis, and pathogen culture maintenance.

Accountabilities

  • Operational: Coordinate and execute plot management, data collection, and laboratory procedures. Guide and supervise team members. Maintain equipment, inventory, and laboratory safety.
  • Project Management: Develop and execute project timelines. Conduct disease screening trials and identify resistant sources. Plan and optimize resource utilization.
  • Administrative: Provide timely reports, monitor team performance, coordinate with other departments, and implement efficient data management practices.
  • Financial: Manage resources cost-effectively and maximize output.
  • Health and Safety: Adhere to safety regulations, report incidents, and promote a safe work environment.

Profile

Qualifications

  • Knowledge: Bachelor's degree in plant pathology with at least 2 years of experience. Strong understanding of plant pathology, entomology, disease/insect symptomatology, pathogen identification, and laboratory techniques.Knowledge of vegetable crop physiology and related quality traits.
  • Skills: Excellent communication (verbal and written) in English and the local language. Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills. Analytical and presentation skills.
  • Experience: Laboratory testing, laboratory equipment, computer basics. Pathology/entomology techniques, disease screening, and crop management.
