Description of the mission

Role Purpose

The Alumni Impact Manager mobilises Teach For Malaysia alumni as a force for education system change, across multiple life stages and pathways.

This role focuses on deepening alumni contribution, enabling purposeful leadership, and ensuring alumni efforts lead to tangible impact in schools, communities, and the wider education ecosystem.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Design and steward a unified Alumni strategy that converges Fellowship Alumni, Duta Guru, and wider participant/staff/student alumni into a single, coherent movement aligned with Teach For Malaysia’s 2030 goals and theory of change.
  • Define clear pathways and articulate collective impact for alumni contribution and initiatives to strengthen influence across the ecosystem.
  • Build and sustain trusted relationships with alumni across all pillars and strategic partners to match alumni leaders with ecosystem opportunities by bridging internal teams and external partners.
  • Embed Alumni priorities and initiatives cross-functionally, partnering across the organisation to deliver seamless, holistic support for current participants and alumni, including student and staff alumni.
  • Lead Alumni impact measurement and learning, including consolidating data across the impact pathways, drawing insights on contributions to school, communities and ecosystems, leadership influence and other tools to elevate alumni stories.
  • Represent Teach For Malaysia externally, advocating for a unified Alumni voice and contributing insights from across programmes to national conversations on education, leadership, and systems change.
  • Lead and co-develop the Alumni Impact teams to deliver high-quality initiatives that enable a strong Fellow/Participant-to-Alumni transition and prepare them for sustained leadership beyond their formal programmes.

Technical/ Functional competencies:

  • Proven ability to design and implement strategic engagement plans for community development and long-term impact.
  • Experience managing Alumni relations, community building, or leadership development programmes.
  • Skilled in stakeholder engagement and building cross-sector partnerships to connect Alumni to resources and opportunities.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to plan, coordinate, and deliver high-quality initiatives on time.
  • Proficient in impact measurement, data analysis, and reporting to inform strategic decisions.
  • Comfortable navigating cross-functional collaboration, with a strong understanding of organisational and team dynamics.
  • Basic budget management skills to support programme planning and implementation.
  • Strong proficiency in Google Suite and digital tools (e.g. Confluence, Salesforce, Zoom).

Leadership competencies:

  • Comfort with ambiguity and non-linear impact pathways.
  • Excellent judgement around empowerment vs control.
  • Strong facilitation and coaching mindset.
  • Ability to translate mission into actionable opportunities.
  • Able to set a clear and compelling vision for the Alumni community and inspire others to contribute to its long-term mission.

  • Thinks strategically and innovatively, identifying opportunities to enhance Alumni engagement and amplify impact.
  • Works collaboratively across teams, serving as a connector and thought partner to align Alumni work with organisational goals.

  • Adaptable in fast-paced and evolving environments, demonstrating resilience and problem-solving when navigating uncertainty.

Experiences & qualification

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in Alumni engagement, community building, leadership development, or related fields.
  • Prior experience in education, non-profit, or social innovation sectors is highly advantageous.
  • Strong written and verbal communication in English; proficiency in Bahasa Malaysia required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
  • Experience in leading teams or managing direct reports is preferred.
  • Willingness to travel and work during non-traditional hours for events or engagements.
  • Comfortable adopting and using digital systems and platforms to support team collaboration and programme delivery.
