Description of the mission

Yayasan Indonesia Cerah (CERAH) is a non-profit organisation in Indonesia that promotes the country’s energy transition policy agenda. CERAH comprises experts in the energy sector, communication, and campaigning. To achieve its goals, it collaborates with diverse stakeholders, including the community, research institutions, the government, and private sector partners.

The Outreach and Advocacy Associate is a full-time position supporting advocacy strategies and strengthening partnership networks to promote the clean energy transition and progressive climate policies in Indonesia. This role involves actively building relationships with stakeholders—including government bodies, civil society organizations, local communities and the general public—expanding the reach of public campaigns, and promoting research-based policy development. That position will work closely with the Outreach and Advocacy Manager and Outreach and Advocacy Coordinator.

This role is currently hybrid. The position is based in Jakarta. Travel is not regularly required for this role.

1. Outreach & Engagement

  • Support the Outreach & Advocacy Manager and/or Project Manager in developing and implementing outreach and engagement strategies related to CERAH’s work pillar.
  • Organize public activities (forums, campaigns, and online/offline actions) to increase awareness among multiple stakeholders.
  • Maintain relationships with government, parliament, international and national NGOs groups, community/grassroots groups, campuses, and youth networks.

2. Advocacy & Stakeholder Relations

  • Assist in executing CERAH’s and coalition advocacy and outreach strategies by ensuring consistent, evidence-based public messaging.
  • Support coordination with partners, including preparing campaign materials, petitions, briefing notes, and advocacy documents.
  • Contribute to stakeholder mapping and strengthen relationships with key actors, including communities, civil society organizations, academia, media, and youth groups.
  • Support engagement activities across thematic teams, divisions teams, and external partners.

3. Communications & Campaign Support

  • Assist in producing campaign content for social media, websites, and other public communication materials related to CERAH’s work pillar.
  • Identify creative campaign opportunities to expand CERAH’s public reach.
  • To be able to research and communicate internally and/or externally on issues related to the campaign.
  • To have strong knowledge of campaign development tools, use them in campaign development.
  • To be able to plan, conceptualize and develop the campaign logic for actions.
  • Maintain good knowledge on relevant campaign issues and provide expertise with respect to specialized campaign areas.
  • Actively participate in public speaking engagements.

3. Project Support

  • Assist the Project Manager in project implementation, including:

a. Coordinating logistics for events and activities

b. Ensuring proper documentation and reporting

c. Monitoring activity progress based on the work plan

  • Support internal coordination across teams to ensure project activities align with organizational advocacy goals.

Profile

Who we are looking for:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (communications, social sciences, international relations, environmental studies, or related areas).
  2. Minimum 2-4 years of experience in campaign work, outreach, advocacy, or community engagement.
  3. Experience working and engaging with multi-stakeholder groups, such as government, communities, local organizations, or youth networks.
  4. Experience in campaign content production is a strong advantage.
  5. Strong ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  6. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  7. Strong writing and analytical abilities.
  8. Creative and able to develop public campaign ideas.
  9. Fluency in Indonesian and good proficiency in English
