➔ Description of the mission

The Researcher will support the delivery of high-quality research on sustainable finance, energy transition, and climate policy across Asia. The role involves collecting and analysing data, synthesising findings into clear outputs, and contributing to policy recommendations that drive low-carbon investment and decarbonisation strategies. Working closely with internal teams and external stakeholders, the Researcher will help produce publications, briefings, and other resources that inform decision-making and strengthen the organisation’s impact.

This role is part of the Climate Finance Fellowship, a 12-month program designed to bridge the talent gap in the climate finance sector. The Fellowship supports mid-career finance professionals who are looking to transition into purpose-driven, climate-focused work—particularly within nonprofit and civil society organizations across the Global South. Fellows are placed within high-impact host organizations, where they take on a core finance or strategy role. In addition to this placement, Fellows join a cohort-based learning journey that includes:

  • Tailored climate and leadership development modules
  • One-on-one coaching and mentorship
  • Peer learning and community exchange
  • Access to professional networks in climate and development

The Fellowship is led by Surge Climate Talent (SCT), with program design and implementation managed by Global Good x Amani (GG x Amani), an impact consulting and leadership development firm. Together, SCT and GG x Amani are working to ensure that host organizations are supported, Fellows are set up for success, and the program contributes meaningfully to strengthening the climate finance ecosystem.

This opportunity is especially suited for professionals from the private or public sectors with strong finance experience who may not yet have worked in climate or nonprofit contexts. It is also open to those currently in the nonprofit sector seeking to specialize in climate finance.

Key responsibilities for the Researcher will include:

  • Conduct research and analysis on sustainable finance, decarbonisation, and energy transition topics.
  • Collect, organise, and interpret data from various sources, including financial, policy, and sectoral reports.
  • Prepare research outputs such as reports, policy briefs, presentations, and knowledge products.
  • Support policy development by identifying gaps, opportunities, and actionable recommendations.
  • Engage with stakeholders from government, financial institutions, and civil society to gather insights and validate findings.
  • Monitor sector trends and developments across relevant geographies and thematic areas.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to integrate research findings into organisational strategies and projects.
  • Assist in organising and participating in events, workshops, and consultations related to project themes.
  • Contribute to capacity building by developing tools, resources, and guidance materials for partners.
  • Maintain accurate project records and contribute to donor or partner reporting as required.

➔ Profile

The Researcher must meet the following criteria

  • Recent graduates in law, or work experiences in environmental law, corporate law, or related fields.
  • Residing in or willing to relocate to Jakarta for the full 12-month term.
  • Committed to issues of social justice, environmental protection, and sustainable governance.
  • Proficiency in corporate law, administrative law, and environmental regulation.
  • Able to read, analyze, and draft legal and policy documents.
  • Experience or interest in energy transition, climate finance, or natural resource law is an asset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
