The Media and Communications Associate will support day-to-day communications activities that promote the work and impact of the USAID Southeast Asia Smart Power Program (SPP). This position will be responsible for designing and leading social media awareness campaigns focused on SPP programmatic areas as well as identifying avenues for SPP to engage youth and increase social media presence in the region. The purpose of this role is to grow awareness of the Smart Power Program while increasing engagement in Southeast Asia around energy and environment through partnership-building and digital campaigns.

The Media and Communications Associate will report to and work closely with the Outreach and Communications Manager as well as Smart Power Program technical staff and leadership.

This is an in-person, long-term position in the Smart Power Program’s office located in Bangkok, Thailand. Limited domestic and regional travel may be expected as required by project activities. Work and travel will follow the policies and procedures of the Thai and U.S. governments and the SPP project office. Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement media content and online campaign strategies to promote SPP activities and programmatic areas among target audiences in the region and internationally, as well as provide overall outreach and communications support.
  • Develop a social media strategy, identify target audiences and potential partners for participation in campaigns, and create engaging digital content (images, videos, stories, hashtags, infographics, blog posts, post captions, etc.) for the SPP Instagram account.
  • Lead the development of social media campaigns for youth engagement in Southeast Asia that will tie into SPP’s involvement in major regional conferences.
  • Assist with the distribution of social media content through SPP and SPP’s partners to enhance brand visibility and stakeholder engagement.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report online comments, campaign metrics, traffic sources, audiences, user journey, etc. from online platforms.
  • Create and maintain a photo, audio, and video library for use in communications and contractual reporting.
  • Support the preparation of SPP’s administrative reporting requirements to USAID and relevant counterparts, including bi-weekly, quarterly, and annual reports.
  • Support in-person and virtual project events as needed.
  • Support the development of technical presentations and key materials (e.g., reports, workshop and training materials).
  • Work with Outreach and Communications Manager to ensure all communications and project materials are presentable and in compliance with the Smart Power Program Communications & Outreach Plan, USAID Branding Implementation and Marking plan, and other requirements as needed.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by Outreach and Communications Manager, Chief of Party, and Deputy Chief of Party.
Profile
  • At least 2 years of experience with a bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, advertising, journalism, films, photography, or any other related field required.
  • Experience in implementing communications campaigns and creating impactful content for different online platforms including organizing events, writing and editing blogs, social media posts, press release and other communications content in English and Thai required.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of SEO principles and stays up to date with social media trends, and analytics tools.
  • Experience analyzing social media metrics and listening tools to provide insights of social media performance and brand sentiment.
  • Experience using content creation tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suites, video editing program will be an asset.
  • Highly dynamic, entrepreneurial, organized self-starter with attention to detail who can work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to meet and exceed deadlines, self-motivated with excellent time management and communication skills (verbal and written) required.
  • Prior experience with U.S. Embassy, USAID, or other U.S. government-funded projects preferred.
  • Experience working with other international donor organizations and ASEAN entities preferred.
  • Understanding of clean energy, climate change, environmental and/or power sector issues preferred.
  • Fluent English and Thai verbal and writing skills required.
  • Experience and understanding of Southeast Asian context, culture, and sensitivity required.
