The Context

Makesense is an international design and innovation organization that spurs social change towards sustainability and inclusivity. We work with diverse stakeholders to bring about social and behavior change, and systems change through our unique, tried-and-tested methodologies in innovation, community mobilization, and strategic communications.

Founded in France in 2010, Makesense has a rich history in developing and implementing programs and tools to facilitate organizations’ contributions to advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Today, Makesense has 4 hubs across the globe, all working towards enabling social good in various sectors.

At Makesense Asia, our programs focus on sustainability, clean energy, public health, circular economy, inclusive employability, and innovation. We implement social and behavior change strategies in all of our programs. Our communications team enables this mission through impact-driven strategic communication projects, ensuring that we empower Filipino advocates to influence the narrative landscape and enact social change.

It is our dream to (1) mainstream progressive narratives that are strategic to social change, and (2) amplify marginalized voices and bring these closer to centers of power and influence.

Your Mission

You will be the organization’s Communication Lead, driving the path to developing Makesense’s impactful communications practice.

Your role is pivotal in ensuring that we get to realize our mission to our communities and key stakeholders.

You will ensure that the stories and communication campaigns we passionately craft and nurture come from people-driven insights and are informed by best-in-class Human-Centered Design and Social and Behavior Change Communications strategies. You will also manage the execution of these campaigns.Eventually, we hope that these storieswill find their space in local and national discussions and discourse so they might awaken countless others to participate in our bigger community.

You will be working directly with the Co-Executive Directors of Makesense along with the other functional groups of the organization in Asia and different parts of the world such as France and South America.

You will also learn through practice of Social and Behavior Change Communications and Human-Centered Design and get the opportunity to lead and innovate your projects in the process, connecting with like-minded individuals inside and outside the organization, and collaborating with different partners in the space.

Key Responsibilities

  • Communication Strategy and Planning
  • Assist the Co-Executive Directors in developing and refining the overall Communication strategy, utilizing available internal data and external research to develop applicable insights that will support communication campaigns and initiatives and program-related communication efforts.
  • Co-develop and document the creative processes and creative methodologies of the organization
  • Support conceptualization and implementation of new and existing on-ground, hybrid, and online communication activities and events, collateral materials, and new digital interactions that can engage audiences, foster community interactions, and empower people to take action as the campaign strategizes for.
  • Often, this will entail facilitation of creative workshops or campaign planning workshops.
  • Creative Management and Execution
  • Lead the planning and execution of the organization’s creative projects; this will include project management and branding development, among others
  • Provide creative briefs, guidance, and feedback to Makesense’s creative team to ensure alignment with project imperatives
  • Work with Program Officers in monitoring and evaluating the creative outputs, finding insights and opportunities for iteration
  • Execute copywriting and/or graphic design tasks as needed
  • Channel Development, Optimization, and Management
  • Oversees, manages, improves, and optimizes the official Makesense Asia website and its content using WordPress as the main platform.
  • Manages the email marketing platform, MailChimp with the Communication Director and Content Officer for newsletters and programs-related correspondences.
  • Experiments on the different ways to maximize the Makesenses Asia website and its features as the main landing page of the online audience journey from audience education and program and events sign-ups among other purposes.
  • Apply basic Search Engine Optimization practices when needed and content strategies to drive audience visits and engagement on the website.
  • Monitor and analyze key performance metrics to inform website and content decisions and optimize performance
  • Support the development, editing, and publishing of content across various platforms particularly the website, ensuring consistency in style, tone, and voice.
  • Public Relations
  • Facilitate or support various public relations (PR) campaigns and activities, including media engagements, blogger outreach, events, speaker opportunities, and other related programs.
  • Handle project management and implement Communications and PR campaigns and activities, including media engagements, influencers and bloggers outreach, events, speaker opportunities, and other related programs.
  • Intentionally build relationships and follow through on target outcomes with media, key opinion leaders and influencers, industry partners, and special interest communities.

We are looking for an individual who believes in the power of storytelling and radical collaborations to influence systemic change! On top of that, there are certain skills and qualities that we believe would make an extremely strong candidate for this role:

Your Profile

  • You are a graduate of any university or college with ideally 3 years of relevant experience in most of these aspects: website development and management using WordPress or similar platform, content ideation, planning, development, and management, developing communication plans and calendars, ideating and developing content, and crafting distribution plans for the different communication initiatives aligned to the overall communications strategy and brand direction.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Communication/Media Studies/Fine Arts/Advertising/Marketing or other related fields is preferred, but not mandatory.
  • You have experience in copywriting and/or graphic design. You have a good eye for design and understand the foundations of good design.
  • You are passionate about storytelling, ideating for, and executing effective communication campaigns around key socio-environmental issues.
  • Aside from developing and executing communication campaigns, you have experience working in a dynamic, creative environment, closely collaborating with diverse individuals and teams internally and externally to achieve a common goal.
  • You are comfortable initiating potential collaborations with key individuals and groups including but not limited to influencers, socio-civic organizations, government institutions, and media companies to further the impact of your projects.
  • You love understanding different communities, and you love thinking of ideas and engagement activities to catch their attention and involve them in the social impact journey.
  • You have a socio-environmental advocacy that you’re passionate about, and you are excited to use your skills in assisting the development of local social impact initiatives.

What Would Make You An Outstanding Candidate?

  • You have strong organizational skills, lots of autonomy, and the ability to work in an international team in a multicultural context.
  • You have experience planning and/or executing a Social and Behavior Change Communication campaign for an international development organization or a multilateral organization.
  • You have experience in integrated marketing communication campaigns and their specific activities including but not limited to account management, brand marketing, growth marketing, social media marketing, online community management, research, insighting, or similar projects.
  • You like to improve your eye and heart for storytelling through data analysis and insighting, and you can apply your learnings to the different aspects of end-to-end content execution.
  • You also have some experience in managing public relations campaigns and activities including forming and nurturing media relationships, developing PR briefs, and seeding PR content.
  • You are level-headed when facing complex situations and can approach problem-solving efficiently and creatively.
  • You are always willing to learn more; you understand that giving and receiving feedback is key to building healthy teams.
  • You have previously engaged with media outlets, advertising agencies, corporations, and youth university organizations and have established connections with their leaders or members.

Logistical Information

  • Start date: March 2025
  • Contract type: Full-time, fixed-term
  • Work hours: We have a flexible work arrangement but our core work schedule is Monday to Friday 9 am to 6 pm.
  • Location: Work From Home but we have an office in Ortigas Business District and we come to the office at least once a week.
  • Compensation: PhP 41,000 to PhP 46,000 base salary + Php 4,000 net allowances
