Main Responsibilities / Duties

Inventory & Assessment of Existing Business Activities

  • Conduct a systematic inventory of all existing and previously established income-generating activities and social enterprises associated with ASRI (e.g., sustainable product sales, community enterprise pilots).
  • Document the current status, operational model, revenue potential, and challenges of each activity.
  • Identify which existing activities can be formalized, scaled, or reactivated to generate consistent income for ASRI.

Business Development & Social Enterprise

  • Design and develop new business units or social enterprise models that generate revenue for ASRI while aligning with its conservation and community health mission.
  • Identify community-based production opportunities where ASRI can add value and earn a margin — for example: sourcing and professionally marketing stingless bee honey (madu kelulut) from ex-loggers, or facilitating the sale of rubber from local farmers in BBBR with a margin for ASRI.
  • Develop operational models for each business unit, including sourcing, quality standards, pricing, margin structure, and sales channels.
  • Assess and adapt the scope of involvement per business unit — from full operational management to partnership and brokerage arrangements — as appropriate.

Partnership Follow-Up & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Follow up on existing partnerships and relationships established by the previous Business Development Manager to maintain momentum and explore conversion to active revenue-generating agreements.
  • Identify and develop new partnerships with buyers, distributors, retailers, or institutional clients for ASRI’s products and services.
  • Represent ASRI in relevant business forums, market linkage events, or stakeholder meetings as directed by the Director of Partnerships.

Monitoring, Reporting & Financial Tracking

  • Track revenue, costs, and margins for each business unit and report to the Director of Partnerships regularly.
  • Prepare monthly progress reports covering business pipeline, active ventures, and financial performance.
  • Contribute to donor and organizational reports with data on ASRI’s income diversification efforts.
  • Identify risks, bottlenecks, or underperforming activities and recommend corrective actions.

Occasional & Other Duties

  • Support or facilitate volunteers and interns involved in ASRI's business or livelihood programs.
  • Assist with documentation or replication of successful business models to ASRI's other working areas when relevant.
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Director of Partnerships.

Selection Criteria

  • Non Smoker
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Social Enterprise, Sustainable Development, Agribusiness, Forestry, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in business development, social enterprise, market linkage, or income-generating program development.
  • Willingness to live and work in Sukadana, or hybrid from Pontianak.
  • Travel within ASRI’s working area as required.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a genuine drive to identify opportunities and turn them into revenue-generating activities.
  • Practical understanding of how to build simple yet sustainable business models, including sourcing, pricing, and margin management.
  • Ability to work with rural communities (ex-loggers, smallholder farmers, artisans) as business partners, not just beneficiaries.
  • Experience working with NGOs, community-based enterprises, or environmental organizations is highly preferred.
  • Good interpersonal and negotiation skills; able to represent ASRI professionally with buyers, partners, and community groups.
  • Good written and spoken Bahasa Indonesia; working proficiency in English is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); basic financial tracking skills.
