The Context

Makesense aims to continuously be a driver for massive, people-driven movements that change the status quo on crucial socio-environmental issues. How? By equipping 500 community leaders in radical collaboration and inspiring 80,000 citizens to action by the end of 2024.

People Operations initiatives contribute to this through its mission by ensuring an optimized experience by bridging the gap between the organization and its employees.

Your Mission

Your position as a People Operations Intern plays a major role in applying Human Resources theories and strategies to enhance employee engagement and productivity. This role involves skills in both human management and development to bridge the gap between the organization and its employees truly.

Through this internship, you will learn to conceptualize and operationalize innovation-focused initiatives on employee engagement, as well as to optimize and create internal systems to improve the organization’s welfare better. You will be coordinating directly with the Executive Director for Programs & Operations of Makesense. Additionally, volunteerism is a much-appreciated trait to have in the organization. After all, what better way to exercise the organization’s mission than making it your own? Overall, you should exercise multiple efforts to ensure that the organization’s goals are appropriately set and later achieved through the lens of the company’s biggest asset – the employees.

Key Responsibilities

Assess business operations to ensure a positive work environment and employee experience through workload audits.

  • Conceptualize and create initiatives that encourage employee engagement
  • Develops assessment tools to recognize employee work satisfaction
  • Schedule consistent meetings with the Executive Director for Programs and Operations in employee forecasting

Assess the well-being of the team based on vacation, sick, and emergency leaves data.

  • Monitor and bridge the approval of the requested leaves by the team
  • Create monthly audits on the number of leaves taken by the team
  • Assess whether the benefits are maximized by everyone in the organization

Ensure that quarterly bills coming from healthcare companies (and other partnered groups) are paid to ensure that the team can maximize their benefits.

  • Submit and monitor related documents that will prompt the processing of payment.
  • Coordinate with the Accounting Department regarding the monthly disbursement of salary and prompt payment of health benefit bills.

Conduct proper documentation and ensure confidentiality of the organization’s documents.

  • Ensure that documents are kept within confidential folders accessed by the Executive Directors and the Accounting Department.
  • Update the documents linked in e-folders to ensure these are up-to-date

  • You have advanced data-gathering skills for both the internal and external data needed to assess trends and performance.
  • You are proficient in both English and Filipino (and have an overall skill in communication!).
  • You have excellent organizational skills for both physical and digital data.
  • You are proficient in Zoom, Google Suites, and Notion.
  • You are experienced in event planning and execution.
  • You are process-oriented and able to critique existing systems.
  • You are a strong suit for analyzing quantitative and qualitative data.

  • You have a strong sense of empathy, and you are often praised for your interpersonal skills.
  • You are level-headed when facing uncertainty and complex situations and are used to solving challenges efficiently and fairly.

Logistical Information

  • Start date: First week of May to First week of November 2025
  • Contract type: Internship
  • Work hours: We have a flexible work arrangement, but our core work schedule is Monday to Friday, 9 am to 6 pm.
  • Location: We work from home, but we have an office in Ortigas Business District (On-site at least once a week).
  • Compensation: Php 10,000 base salary + Php 2,000 net allowances
