Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this job is to undertake the implementation of freshwater conservation work and attainment of the related objectives and outputs under the Peninsular Malaysia Terrestrial Conservation (PMTC) Programme with a focus on the Klang Valley (encompassing Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya).

This job will be guided by and will contribute towards the achievement of the WWF-Malaysia Strategy 2021-2030, PMTC Programme Strategy (FY23-FY27) and the WWF Global Programme Framework.

Key Outputs

  • Timely completion of all assigned activities and delivery of outputs as defined under the relevant project documents and regular reporting (written and / or verbal) to the supervisors.
  • Inputs into the reporting requirements of WWF-Malaysia, the WWF network (i.e. the quarterly and half-yearly technical reports) and donors.
  • Documents and materials, including technical reports, briefing documents and information papers as baselines, references or inputs for the formulation of strategies for advocacy and communications related to freshwater ecosystems and resources conservation relevant to Klang Valley.
  • New project proposals, for purposes of fundraising and / or partnership and engagement, jointly with other relevant PMTC Freshwater team members, as and when required.
  • Increased promotion and advocacy for the mainstreaming of freshwater conservation aspects, through integration of measures to safeguard and sustainably manage freshwater ecosystems and resources into various government planning, management and development documents.
  • Increased / enhanced linkages and collaborations with key partners and stakeholders (e.g. government agencies, business and industries, NGOs, civil society and media) concerning aspects of sustainable management of freshwater ecosystems and resources in the Klang Valley.
  • Wide engagement and outreach to enhance awareness, knowledge and interest, and to promote positive actions towards freshwater conservation and sustainable use among civil society and stakeholders.
Profile

Specifications

  • A graduate with Degree and / or professional background relevant to freshwater and / or wetlands conservation, environmental / natural resources management, conservation science, nature-based solutions, solid waste management or a related subject from a recognised university / academic institution.
  • Understanding and experience in the application of relevant tools / approaches in conservation such as surveys for data collection, data analysis, stakeholder mapping, community engagement, awareness campaigns, and freshwater ecosystem related assessments would be an advantage.
  • Mature and able to work with minimum supervision both in the field and office, willing to take challenges and has the capacity to act on issues with professionalism.
  • Excellent written and oral skills in English and Bahasa Malaysia. Proficiency in a third language would be an added advantage.
  • Must be computer literate and have the ability to use appropriate technology for presentation to partners, stakeholders and potential donors.
  • Must possess a valid driving license and has experience in driving long distances. Possession of a vehicle will be an added advantage.

  • Good understanding of current issues especially having knowledge on freshwater, environmental and conservation issues.
