Job Description

This position will support the design, implementation and monitoring of forestry and agricultural climate change mitigation projects and programs. This will include developing the logical framework and participatory procedures and processes to monitor the implementation of activities that promote climate, social and biodiversity benefits and impacts.

The position will:

  • Manage projects including clients/funders/partners’ requirements and technical deliverables related to the generation of Greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions and other environmental and social benefits from agricultural and other land-use projects/programs
  • Facilitate collaboration with implementing partners/clients (local NGOs, governments, others) in the design and implementation of projects/programs
  • Develop, follow and manage work plans, budgets, and financial projections
  • Facilitate training and capacity building to project partners on conservation, agriculture, and other livelihood programs
  • Lead and support Terra’s work on the design, implementation and monitoring of projects that promote improved natural resources management of forests and agricultural lands
  • Lead a multidisciplinary/ multicultural remote team to achieve deliverables for feasibility, implementation and monitoring phases on time and under budget
  • Design theory of change (framework), and Workplan Development jointly with partners
  • Develop monitoring procedures and processes to collect the data required to evaluate the operational, social, climate and biodiversity benefits of projects and programs
  • Design and facilitate training sessions and develop tools and templates for local partners to monitor project implementation
  • Oversee the data collection (social and biodiversity) and provide on time feedback to subcontractors for different Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) Projects and Programs
  • Review and analyze field-data (social and biodiversity),
  • Interpret results to report on impact on monitoring reports for AFOLU projects and Programs in accordance with international recognized GHG measurement standards (Verified Carbon Standard, American Carbon Registry, others)
  • Lead the engagement process with communities in collaboration with the implementing partners, relevant government officials and other key stakeholders
  • Facilitate the identification of typologies and quantification protocols/methodologies for measuring emission reduction and removals from AFOLU projects/programs in international settings
  • Define data needs and interface with implementing partners, community members to collect required data for GHG quantification
  • Manage validation and verification processes for projects/programs
  • Oversee delivery of all work to ensure high quality deliverables are produced on time and on budget
  • Other responsibilities
  • Contribute to the creation and review of carbon feasibility studies, Project Documents and Monitoring Reports for projects managed by other team members
  • Support the development of web-based and mobile monitoring tools
  • Visit project sites in the U.S. and abroad, including developing countries, for assessment, data gathering and sharing, mapping, collection ground-truthing data, training, and capacity building
Profile

Skills And Qualifications

The candidate must have proven track record of design, implementation, and monitoring of REDD+ and other nature-based solutions (NBS) projects and familiarity with international standards for measuring social, biodiversity and other co-benefits from these projects.

Required

  • At least 5 years of work experience in the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of forestry and agricultural projects around livelihoods and skills development programs, especially for climate vulnerable populations, specifically in developing countries;
  • A master’s degree in natural resource management, ecology, agronomy, environmental science, development, or another relevant field;
  • Minimum 1 year of experience with carbon projects, including an understanding of carbon standards like CDM, VCS, and CAR and the AFOLU Sector;
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities under pressure, and attention to detail;
  • Strong project management, communication, and negotiation skills;
  • Excellence in MS Office suite, including formatting in Word and advanced Excel skills, computer-literate with the ability to learn new tools quickly;
  • Excellent written skills in English;
  • Willingness to travel and work in remote areas, at least 25%

Preferred

  • Knowledge of at least one foreign language, preferably Spanish, French or Portuguese;
  • Passionate about working in development and the environmental sector
